Enokitei — Restaurant in Yokohama

If you like eating in historic places and don‘t mind slow service, then this place is great! It feels like sitting in a museum (in a good way) and the outside is romantic and cosy, shaded by trees. However, only because we arrived a bit early on a weekday at lunch time, we didn‘t have to queue to get in. It took 30 mins until our burgers arrived. The burger was good but not the best one we’ve had in Yokohama. The afternoon tea set is quicker but I think it‘s quite pricey. When we left after 50 mins, some people who arrived before us still hadn‘t been served yet and there was a huge queue outside. They also serve excellent French style cake - however, small and expensive. I think this place is great if you have a day off and want to meet a friend over a cup of tea, without being in a rush. Parody tea shop. We had high hopes given the building and location and indeed first impressions are good. But a closer look reveals this place as just another Instagram trap - from the maid cafe costumes to the Annabelle dolly perched in the corner. It’s all style no substance. No decent choice of tea (Earl Grey, anyone?); to get a pot of tea you have to order a set; sandwiches dry; staff unfriendly. Yamate is a lovely place but it deserves better than a Disney...

It is a tiny boutique café in a former western style private house in Yamate district (once the Westerner's enclave) in Yokohama. The house is like a gem with a small garden in front of it. The interior is very cozy and pleasant, as if you were invited by your close friends and are time slipping 100 years ago.
