DAWAT — Restaurant in Almaty

I recently visited DAWAT with my pregnant wife, who had been craving authentic briyani for Eid. Unfortunately, our experience was far from what we had hoped for, primarily due to the limited menu choices available because of a large party of 30 guests. Upon arrival, we were informed that many of the dishes we were excited to try were unavailable, as the restaurant was prioritizing the large group. This was particularly disappointing for my wife, who had been looking forward to enjoying a flavorful mutton briyani. At about 10-15mins of ordering, the server said mutton was out of stock and recommended chicken -just realised we were charged for mutton instead of chicken- When we finally received our order after 30mins wait, we were both disheartened to find that the briyani lacked the rich flavors and spices that make this dish so special. It was bland and did not meet our expectations for authentic cuisine. As a restaurant that prides itself on its offerings, it was disheartening to see such a lack of attention to detail, especially when it comes to a dish that is so beloved. My wife’s craving was not satisfied, and we left feeling let down. I understand that accommodating large parties can be challenging, but it should not come at the expense of the quality and availability of food for other diners especially when we were the only party present. I hope that DAWAT can find a better way to manage such situations in the future, ensuring that all guests receive the full experience they deserve. Until then, I cannot recommend this restaurant for those seeking authentic briyani or a satisfying...

Dawat is hands down one of the best restaurants in Almaty if you’re craving authentic and flavorful Indian cuisine. From the moment you step in, the warm ambiance and attentive service make you feel welcome.

The food is absolutely delicious — every dish is packed with rich flavors and the perfect balance of spices. The biryani is fragrant and cooked to perfection, the curries are creamy and full of depth, and the naan is fresh, soft, and straight out of the tandoor. Portions are generous, and the presentation is thoughtful.

What really stands out is the consistency in quality — whether you’re dining in or ordering takeaway, the taste and service remain top-notch. The staff is friendly, polite, and always ready to help with recommendations.
