My friends and I visited Top Rise on the 9th of June and the experience was okay. We arrived at around 21:00 and made our orders. The waitress was patient enough and helped when we asked questions about the meals. We ordered stir fry chicken, chicken tikka and butter chicken.

My two friends were satisfied with their meals but I wasn't. My butter chicken wasn't the best and it tasted a bit bitter and the cabbage was stuffy. The waitress was also not honest about the order not coming with an accompaniment, meaning the rice served with it was charged. The butter chicken itself is 800 kes, mind you. Apparently the only thing that is not charged when you select it as a side is chapati. My friend who also got the stir fry and rice, was charged extra. Leaving out information can easily disorganizes someone especially when you had a budget in mind. Aside from that the other meals were okay. I sampled each meal my friends ordered and I liked the stir fry chicken.

One of them also ordered spiced tea and the tea was anything but spiced. This was my second time visiting Top Rise and I don't think I will be returning. I'm keen on service and decided to give them a second chance after being served semi-burnt stir fry chicken last time. I opted to try it and see if something had changed, and yes, the stir fry chicken this time was well prepared but the butter chicken was not. Additionally, the lack of full disclosure when it comes to price is a major issue that can't be overlooked. Should you wish to try it, make sure you get the full details before making an order and cross-check your...

SCAMMERS. Order their food at your own risk.

I ordered chicken Biryani, as the receipt clearly shows. Only to find that their description of Biryani is miles away from what they deliver. They're describing it as "marinated chicken in biryani rice" (as normal biryani should be), only to find out, they delivered the subsequent item on their menu: Chicken Stew with BOILED RICE. Nothing in this whole meal is even remotely chicken biryani like and I bitterly regret ordering from this scamming restaurant.

On top of it, their line is unanswered; and when I tried to get to them through Bolt, guess what they told me? That "this is how they serve their biryani and I'm supposed to MIX IT???" Excuse me? To start with, it's a huge piece of chicken breast in gravy. How on earth could you mix this with BOILED RICE to give you chicken biryani?? A single piece of chicken, gravy, and boiled rice. Have you heard of anything more ridiculous?

Be warned. Scammers are everywhere in Nairobi lol. I was unluckily ensnared. Don't be. Still squinting to find the puported marinated pieces of...

We ordered a platter because it said it included fish. They brought it without fish. When we asked for the fish, they said they only had whole fish and not fileted fish. They could've brought the whole fish to compensate us for the missing menu item, but they declined to take responsibility. When a representative asked about the service and we explained what happened, he acted like it was our problem like we should've known the menu is inaccurate. They could've told us the platter would not be as described in the menu so we could've ordered something else, but they didn't.

EDIT 5 Aug: You may notice that Top Rise offered me a free meal in their response but gave no information about how to claim that offer. We called multiple times and no one admitted to having any knowledge of this interaction. When I showed up in person they claimed that someone was impersonating them on Google! So I'm reducing my rating from two...

One of the best hidden gems in the CBD to enjoy meals. Their food portions are plenty and the food is sumptuous. They also offer a wide variety of drinks ranging from fruit juices to cocktails. The ambience is also amazing, and the seating area is large. We chose to dine on the balcony as we wanted to enjoy the view of Kimathi Street. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant.
