Cafe Kaya has a lot going for it. Their food is good. Their servers are okay as well. I just didn't understand why their two for one cocktails cannot be delivered all at once. The servers easily forget about the subsequent cocktails and you end up having to call on them multiple times to just get your second drink (that is paid for). So that was a huge turnoff for me. Also, going there on a weekend without a reservation will get you very awkward seating. We were seated right outside the salon next door. Interestingly, people who came even two hours after us were given space in the lounge downstairs. The restaurant is not more than living room space so you should book a table in advance and distract yourself from the noise of your neighboring tables. So maximum for me would be 5/10...

The place tends to attract a young crowd, I’d say 18-23 mostly so can get a bit noisy. Ribs & wings + wedges were really really dope and the portion was large. Proper value for money. I eat a lot and I couldn’t finish it.
The rice and beef (not sure what the name on the menu was) was pretty basic. Not bad, but nothing to write home about.
Service was really nice, no complaints here. Tips can’t be paid via M-PESA paybill or card. I don’t like sending money directly to peoples phone numbers but I had no option since I didn’t have cash.
Would recommend not driving here. Parking can be an issue. There’s also a lot of commotion at the...

Cafe Kaya in Nairobi is an antique love letter. It is an inspiring space serving up one amazing dish at a time. Kaya is the name of the proprietor's daughter and it honours her. An utter joy. While they do not have a vast option for vegans, they knocked up a vegetable pizza for us with potato wedges on the side. A dawa mocktail and a crafted beer from the guys at Bila Shaka brewery was enough to wash down the pizza.
A bold and rough meal yet something we were craving for on our last day in Nairobi. The space has such an antique and old vibe. If you love books and board games, then you will enjoy what they have.
It is a rustic space that just deposits you somewhere for a moment. So come ready to...
