In short: Do not recommend this for foreigners visiting Nairobi. It seems the servers are trained to be dishonest and take advantage of you with the goals of overcharging (multiple other reviews mention this). The food is just okay and definitely not worth the lying.
Longer: Our server, Nailah, recommended we get a mixed meat platter for 1900 that is a very popular choice for everyone, the smallest platter, mix of popular dishes. She didn’t give us any option for customization and acted as if this was a standard set choice, and repeatedly said 1900. The menu was only on a QR code online, and with bad service difficult to navigate. We trusted her recommendation. When our check came, each item on the platter was itemized separately. Meaning this was not a standardized platter but self-selected dishes. To make it worse, the items added up to 2360. We noticed this discrepancy and asked her, and she admitted that she “made a mistake” and put the “wrong type of beef on the platter” and that’s why it’s not 1900. When we asked her to correct her mistake, she refused and said she’d have to “pay the difference herself if she fixed it” to guilt us to just pay regardless.
It seems she purposefully over charged and hoped we wouldn’t notice. It seems she lied about the “most popular platter” to begin with and just picked expensive dishes to her liking. When called out about her lying/“making a mistake”, she refused to fix it.
I was excited to go to a halal local spot. But clearly this restaurant isn’t trying to be an ethical halal spot, they just want to maximize profits even if it means lying and cheating customers. It seems many customers have been lied to and overcharged. None of the food is worth...
Read moreI already saved this restaurant before visiting Nairobi and was told it's a good and popular restaurant to visit for trying out local cuisine. I visited on an evening, it is just directly an adjacent building to the Jamai Mosque and easy to find with the bright lights. Was there quite early and didn't expect this place to be quite crowded already. Was shown to a table and then was asked to scan the QR code to view the menu and someone would come to take my order. I didn't really know what to order though I had in mind to try local cuisine, but what surprised me was almost every table ordered the Chicken Biryani which looked so good. So came the waitress and I asked her to recommend me some local food. I was quite surprised when she told me there isn't much local food available, and she also recommended me to try the chicken Biryani so I ordered that. It looks like the menu had so many dishes but in actual fact they don't. There were so many flavours of cakes in the menu but she told me only 2 were available. So don't be too overjoyed with what you see and check with the staff. Ended up just ordering the chicken biryani and a drink which was pineapple and mint. Had to say the Biryani dish really blew me away, very impressed with how well executed it was, very flavourful and tasty. Loved the rice and the gravy especially. I asked for more gravy and was told I would need to pay for extras, so I ended up without finishing the rice because there was no gravy left. Food good and prices are definitely reasonable. Forget about the menu and come try the...
Read moreSpacious restaurant with relatively affordable meals and drinks. Service by Maureen was pleasant and friendly and I felt truly welcomed to the restaurant. However, food (presentation and quality) could be improved. I had the breakfast croissant that comes with sausages, home fries, kachumbari and fruit salad and a "Dawa" (for my drink) which, sadly, took way too long to be served! I enjoyed the fruit salad as it was fresh and none of the fruits were tangy or mushy. However, the home fries were pretty cold compared to the rest of the other items and the croissant was not that fresh. Also, the plates/saucers and the mini-jug (for the honey) were noticeably chipped and stained. They could definitely do with some thorough cleaning or simply be replaced altogether. Double thumbs up for the restroom though; It was...
