I am guessing it is a Japanese inspired café due to the fake cherry blossom tree and the menu. This place is located inside Sarit. The space is small but they have a few tables outside.
The one star is for the servers. They were prompt, helpful and didn't look miserable.
I didn't care for the space in general. It feels cramped, not cosy more like a diner with brighter colours. The prices are definitely not diner prices with most food items at or above KES 1000. The servings are also small especially beverages.
I had the mushroom pie with the cocoa zambarau tea. I initially wanted the matcha, but they didn't have it. The pie was dry and I didn't enjoy it. It came with a sauce of some sort, but it had chilli in it. The tea was interesting. I am an avid tea drinker and enjoy it a lot. I couldn't tell what I was ordering from the name, so I had no expectations per say. It came in a pot and was served with some honey. The first cup, I could smell a faint cocoa aroma, but the tea tasted like nothing. It had a very light brown colour so I couldn't place the Zambarau, which I thought would be perhaps purple tea owing to the name. The second cup had a deeper colour, I could taste the cocoa flavour as well as smell it but the tea itself was blant. I have later learnt that this particular tea also has some coconut which I never tasted. With perhaps a bit more tea leaves, correct degree of water and a longer time to steep, this would definitely be an enjoyable drink.
I am not sure who I would recommend this place to. If you have the budget and want to try something different, then perhaps you can try them. I personally will not be going back but am sure there are others who would...
Read moreBeen a loyal customer of Shokupan Sarit center for a while now.
It is my go to cafe and bakery when I am at Sarit center.
The capuccino moccachino and cardamon tea are one of the best beverages comparing to other cafes in Nairobi.
I have always loved the desserts and pastries served there.
They have the most scrumptious desserts suited especially for a couple on a date as the ambience too provides a comfy rosy pink aura.
It is seems as a nice gesture providing a complimentary nano croissant with coffee.
Shokuppan is most suited for those in love wanting a perfect sweet day with coffee and desserts.
My favourite desserts are the Tiramisu cake, strawberry shortcake and the cheese cakes.
The hospitality is amazing.
Becky and David are always there to assist me and inform me on any new desserts, savories and offers (if any).
Becky, David and Patrick are especially quite exceptional as they are always welcoming the guest, providing exceptional guest service and communicating in a friendly tone and provide me with alternative desserts if the one that I have isn't available. They also wish me to have a pleasant day ahead when I am returning back to my daily schedules.
I look forward to having more...
Read moreUpdate 13 Oct 2024 Today the food was very bad - ordered their new boa sandwich with scrambled egg - there was no taste to it. They need to improve this sandwich - the bao is soft and it pairs well with crunchy tofu etc. but not with soft egg and siracha sauce. The need to revisit this menu option - I did not find it palatable
What a gem of a restaurant - that too, Asian pure vegetarian and vegan food. Each and every item on the menu is thoughtfully crafted - I had their California tofu bao sandwich and it was delicious. Their sauces have magic to it - they are incredibly tasty. Whether you savor their sesame coleslaw salad which comes with an orangish zesty dressing or have their vegan haragu dumplings which comes with a chili oil accompaniment and a “green sweet and spicy chili oil accompaniment” (superlative *) the flavors are unimaginably tasty. Highly recommended !! The service is very attentive and courteous and staff work so hard throughout the day -...
