Visited in August 2025. Kyrgyzstan 🇰🇬 Bishkek.
Restaurant Frunze lived up to its reputation as one of Bishkek’s finest. The summer veranda felt like dining in a lush estate, with greenery and tasteful decor creating a magical, almost aristocratic atmosphere.
FOOD:
The menu is compact but diverse, with a separate section for seasonal specials. We started with their signature Caesar salad featuring fried suluguni cheese and an espuma caesar sauce. Individually, the components were delicious—the sauce was particularly tender and delightful—but as a whole, the dish didn’t quite come together. Smaller-cut lettuce and classic croutons instead of cheese might’ve worked better. The dorado was a masterpiece: fresh, juicy fish paired with a perfectly complementary side, especially the standout tartlet. Unfortunately, we couldn’t try the lamb due to kitchen technical issues, though the staff handled it professionally. For dessert, we were treated to complimentary “First Lady” and a traditional mousse from the specials menu. Both were tasty, but the mousse won us over with its more intriguing flavor profile.
SERVICE:
The service was excellent, and despite the hiccup with the lamb, the staff resolved it masterfully, comping our desserts as a gesture of goodwill, which left us thoroughly satisfied.
VERDICT:
Frunze is a stellar restaurant with an enchanting atmosphere, especially on the summer terrace. The dishes we tried were professionally prepared, offering both exquisite flavors and aesthetic pleasure. The management’s swift handling of the kitchen issue ensured we didn’t leave upset but stayed in a great mood. It’s one of Bishkek’s best, and we highly recommend it for a memorable...
Read moreThe visit at Frunze was supposed to be a highlight of my stay in Bishkek, but it left me with an impression that the services in Kyrgyzstan still have a long way to go. While the food was delicious, the training and attentiveness of staff was below the level of any local London restaurant, definitely a huge disappointment for a place that's supposed to be the country's finest.
To start the mishaps, after I finished my starters, the waiter cleaned up my table, brought the main, and left me with part of the cutlery missing. For good 3 minutes nobody realized, until I raised it.
The worst happened though after I finished my main. Again the table was cleaned, and then for 10-15 minutes I was left to myself. The waiters were busy with cleaning other tables, and other random stuff, not even serving other clients. Completely focused on themselves, not their guests. No suggestion of desserts, or anything. After I finally raised that with one of the waiters, his response was: 'What do you want, the bill?' I said yes, and in a moment the waiter serving me originally comes with the bill ... and she ask me if I want any dessert🤦♂️
As you'd expect by what you've read so far, during the meal nobody bothered to check if the food is all good, etc.
I'll say it again, the food was great, but the service was just...
