First let me start with the positives in regards to Sues Indian Raja in Vilnius. I dined there last night for a Christmas treat (I am not a very wealthy person, so yeah it was a special Christmas treat for my partner and I ).I was met at the door by a very warm and welcoming woman who took our coats and guided us to a lovely table with a full view of the Christmas Tree and Vilnius Cathedral. The waitress we had was brilliant and so indeed were the other staff member who were I am pleased to say authentic Indians. I ordered AVIENOS “RARA GOSHT" (a Lamb dish) which cost me €13 plus €5.50 for Basmati rice cooked with green peas. For that I got 3 cubes of Lamb (a small mouthful I would class as I cube of Lamb ) serviced in the relevant sauce which was delicious and very tasty but the meal was over almost over before it began it was such a small portion (no I am not a person who would sit down and would eat a full chicken in one sitting ,I have a moderate appetite). That worked out at €6.61 per cube of Lamb !!!! €6.61thats a crazy price. My partner Edita ordered LAMB KORMA at €14.50 plus plain rice at €2.50. The Korma was the furthest thing that I ever seen or Edita has ever eaten as a Korma dish. The dish was a white sickly colour (Korma to me is alway a corn colored yellow) with was no coconut and no cashew nuts that she could taste in it.When I enquired from the Indian staff I was informed it was Korma from a different region of India then the one I was used to eating all over the world from New York, London, Manchester to Berlin.PUT IT ON THE MENU IF ITS DIFFERENT. I only have the staff members word for that If this is Korma from a specific area but to Edita and I who would be regular diners of Indian cuisine this just was NOT Korma.I will go back to restaurant as it has many pluses but guys n gals you need to be clear about what the customer is ordering and not just leaver it to chance which seems to be the way it works in Sues Indian...
Read moreThe restaurant is beautiful and service is spotless. Sadly, the food leaves a lot to be desired.
I started with chicken pakora. The pakoras themselves were not bad (but not great either - they certainly weren't 10€ worthy), but the real disappointment were the sauces. Mint and hot sauces were offered, with the mint suace having some weird artificial taste, and the hot sauce not being hot at all, but extremely sweet instead.
I continued with lamb rara gosht. The curry wasn't bad per se (although there were few questionable pieces of meat in it) but despite being labeled as spicy on the menu, it lacked any heat at all. Not even a hint of spice, kinda removing the whole point while one goes to an Indian restaurant. Naan was dry and stale. The best thing I can say about food is that the rice was okay.
They offer chilli powder on the table. Which is nice I guess, but it clearly shows the problem this restaurant has. Sorry, but putting powder on a finished curry won't help if the curry wasn't cooked properly in the first place. This is not a cheap restaurant, I expect the chef to make me a delicious meal, not getting a bland food and then compensating for it by pouring insane amount of powder onto it, hoping for at least some kick.
It's a pity because the ambience of the restaurant is really nice and waiters are real professionals. But as long as the food remains mediocre and not even remotely authentic Indian, it's not worth the price...
