Chong Choon Cafe proved to be a delightful breakfast discovery during my recent stay at the Hilton Hotel in Kuching. After several days of hotel breakfasts, my colleagues and I were eager to explore the local eateries in the area.
One morning, following a refreshing stroll, a friend recommended Chong Choon Cafe, and we unanimously agreed to give it a try. Fortunately, the cafe was just a short 10-minute walk from Hilton Hotel, making it a convenient choice for us.
We arrived at the cafe around 6:45 AM, and at that early hour, there were no large crowds yet. The cafe was comprised of several small hawker stalls, most of which were in the process of opening for the day.
For our breakfast, we opted for the roti bakar (toasted bread) and some drinks. While we had intended to try the famed Sarawak laksa, the laksa stall wasn't quite ready to serve at the time of our visit.
One noteworthy aspect of Chong Choon Cafe is its Muslim-friendly environment. Although many of the hawker stalls may not possess Halal certificates, they assured us that they use Halal ingredients. This inclusivity was evident as we saw Muslim patrons enjoying their breakfast at the cafe.
If I find myself in Kuching again, I would definitely consider returning to Chong Choon Cafe, perhaps around 8 AM to ensure that all stalls are fully operational. I'm particularly eager to sample the Sarawak laksa, which I missed out on...
Read moreFound this place near the hotel I stayed. Been wanting to try popiah but a few of the places I went weren't open so I decided to visit here to try my luck. Was just a 5 minutes walk from the hotel. Arrived pretty early before 730 and there was already quite a lot of people. I head about the popiah and toast here and decided to give it a try. Luckily the popiah stall was opened. Ordered an original one and the other with the seaweed skin. From another stall ordered the toast and the teh c special. First came the teh c and the toast. Loved the way the tec c is served here, quite an interesting layering and looks sweet but isn't actually sweet. The toast was quite good, almost blew me away. Loved the crispiness and the rich kaya taste. Then came the popiah. Tasted pretty good though the sweet sauce was quite different from what I expected it wasn't sweet. The taste was quite light. On the other hand, the seaweed one tasted better cause I think the main reason was the seaweed had pretty good flavour which enhanced the taste of the popiah. Regretted ordering 2 I didn't expect it to be so filling, it looked quite small from the ones I saw people eating so I decided to get 2. It was a good breakfast experience here and I enjoyed the food and drinks here. Still quite a few other stalls worth venturing but was too full for that. Cheap and good....
Read moreLast visitation in October, 2023 (It was also my first time going there). This place is really suitable for breakfast 👍🏻 I went to this place with my friends early morning at 07.00, hopefully we got seat. People told us that this place is quite famous, especially for its Laksa Noodle. And, it's right! I was falling in love with the Laksa Noodle! 😋 It's true that it was my first time trying Laksa Noodle as well, however I think that one is already great! 💯 My friend also order Kolo Mie here. I think that Kolo Mie is quite common dish at Kuching
For the price, I'm sorry I forgot the exact price ... but it's really really affordable. No more than RM 20 + Teh-O Kosong(?) 🤔 Teh-O Kosong means Original Tea without sugar or milk. The ambience is good as well, you might see a lot of people come here for having breakfast too 😁 Make sure don't come too late because the place always full...
