The best place for matcha and tea-dessert I’ve tried in Malaysia, including the Peninsula.
In term of its matcha drinks, not only does it serve a good interesting variety of matcha, it’s unique i.e different from the Niko Neko likes (Yuri/Ajisai/Kiku etc), and they executed it well too. Despite the high price tag, the intensity and volume was higher than what I’ve had even more Niko Neko (I’m a frequent patron there), so to me it was justified.
Speaking of its desserts, I particularly like how it’s kept less sweet while maximising the tea flavor. The matcha choux was rather mindblowing that the outer layer was so thin and not oily while packing a bursting amount of smooth intense matcha custard. And the pistachio matcha cake, though subtle on the tea side (with pistachio being the star), it’s a very well made cake as well, with soft moist layers of sponge, and good layers of flavor. The only thing I wished was that they could remind me to have it before the choux.
A place that I just couldn’t wait to see having a branch in...
Read moreI wouldn’t call myself a matcha connoisseur, but I do appreciate a good one. So when a fellow food photographer recommended Matcha Studio, I knew I had to check it out.

We also tried their popular Basque burnt cheesecakes... original, matcha, and pistachio. You can see how creamy the centers were. Once again, very well-balanced and not overly sweet. Just how I like it.
Our only gripe was the cleanliness of the premise. There were a few vacant tables with empty cups. We also had to wait for our orders to be taken as when we entered, there was no staff at the counter. Iron out these details and I'll definitely...
Read moreI recently visited the Matcha Studio by gdc and I must say, I was completely blown away. From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted with a warm smile and excellent barista . The ambiance is relaxing and cozy, making it the perfect spot for a quiet afternoon or catching up with friends.
Now, for the star of the show - the kiku. Let me just say, it's some of the best I have ever had. The texture is velvety smooth, with just the right balance of sweetness and bitterness. The matcha lattes are a must-try, and I also loved the matcha-infused desserts. Not only is the matcha delicious, but it's also made with high-quality ingredients, making it a guilt-free treat.
Overall, I highly recommend the Matcha Studio by gdc. From the excellent customer service to the amazing matcha drinks and desserts, it's a true hidden gem. I can't...
