We went to Canton i, in Gurney Plaza for lunch. We ordered some dim sum items. The steamed pork buns, prawn dumplings, stuffed vegetables and chicken legs were just so-so. The steamed prawns in broad rice sheet wraps were over-steamed. The sauce was not traditional dim sum sauce that you get in most well-known dim sum places.
A small pot of tea was charged on per person basis at MYR5 per person and the waitress do not come over to your table to top up the pot with hot water.
We queued to pay up. There were two cashiers at the counter and one was serving a customer. My hubby lined up at where the other cashier was but she did not make eye contact nor did she take the trouble to tell my hubby she wasn't going to serve anyone. She continued with what she was doing. My husband would have been next in the queue but because he was waiting where the "busy" cashier was, another customer was served by the other cashier who pretended she didn't know my husband was waiting there first. We had to wait a while longer.
Canton i does not provide paper napkins but instead provide wet tissue wrapped in plastic and charge customers for it. The food is a wee bit pricey for the quality and service and it really is a rip-off to charge customers for the tissues and a tiny plate of steamed peanuts which we didn't order but was placed on our table and we thought it was complimentary.
What a letdown. It wasn't a satisfactory...
Read moreI am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the service I experienced at Canton-I today. According to your stated business hours, the restaurant opens at 10:30 AM ( the operation hour they put in shopwall ) so I arrived at that time, expecting to be served. However, not only was the restaurant not ready to receive customers, but the staff also chose to completely ignore those of us waiting.
Despite several of us standing and waiting outside the entrance, not a single person had the courtesy to inform us that the actual opening time is now 11:00 AM—which contradicts the information publicly provided. We were left waiting without explanation, and the staff continued to walk past us without acknowledging our presence. Only when I approached them directly after about 10 minutes was I informed that they were not open yet and would only start at 11:00 AM
This level of customer service is completely unacceptable. Clear communication and basic respect should be the minimum standard, yet your team failed on both fronts. If your operating hours have changed, then update them accordingly. If not, your staff needs to be trained to handle customers with more professionalism and courtesy.
I hope this complaint is taken seriously, and that proper action is taken to ensure no other customer has to experience such neglect and rudeness...
Read moreThe price is quite atas. After all most of the food you will order here can theoretically be bought at hawker or dim sum places. You must reconcile to the fact that you are paying for the overhead, the air con, the convenience and clean comfortable modern decor.
The dish itself is quite tasty except that it's a little cold (exposed hanging meat in an air con environment will do that to any product). Even then, the duck meat was delicious though I felt a little tough. The skin however was tasty. As for the siobak, surprisingly still had the requisite cracking skin even with the cold temperature. Sauce combines well with the meat and rice completes the whole dish.
I didn't particularly like the yu char koay wrapped in the rice flour skin. The rice flour and sauce were pretty standard. The yu char kuih however was way too dense and plain to be enjoyable. Throw in the cool temperature and the whole dish took a huge effort to finish. I probably won't be ordering that in the near future.
In short, don't be too hung up about the high price. This is mall pricing and you need to consider the convenience. Probably good to consider their soup dishes next time if you need something more...
