This is a lovely gem of a speakeasy bar that's minimalistic, and has a fantastic vibe. The cocktail creations infuse many local ingredients that reflect Penang's multicultural cuisine from the use of kafir lime to nutmeg syrup and even cardamom pods just to name a few. I had the Karma which was an herbal-forward drink with a strong cardamom note, and Amore Sempre which looked like an old fashioned, but made with mezcal, tequila and chili liquor. Both drinks were very different from cocktails I've had elsewhere, and were a delight to the senses.
Felix who owns and operates this establishment hails from Germany, but has been in Penang long enough that I can detect evidence of our local slang permeating his being when he speaks. We had a great conversation about how he conceptualized the kind of venue he wanted to have, and even the type of customers he prefers.
Do not miss this place if you're in Penang, and looking for a taste of something local in your cocktail. Highly...
Read moreAs a cocktail & foodie enthusiast, I find that Chez Chez tackles all the gaps that are missing in Love Lane, Penang. Went there at least 3 times and this cocktail bar always exceeds my expectations. The carefully crafted cocktails curated by an experienced mixologist tackle all kinds of flavors for everyone with a different palette. I would shout-out to try the Goddess of Mercy & Island of Penang for a start. Not only that, the brunch food is flavorful & also clean & healthy if you’re looking for some clean bites when drinking with friends. For brunch, I highly recommend the Avocado Toast Nigiri & Grilled Goat Cheese Salad. It’s light, flavorful and you’ll be full and energized too! The ambience is great too, they don’t play obnoxious EDM like most bars in Penang. Staff are all friendly and great to chat to. Definitely worth coming by & checking out to have a great night...
Read moreAll I can say is WOW! If you like amazing cocktails, warm service, and good vibes, this is definitely a place you should visit in Georgetown. The owners, Cheryl and Felix, are two locals who put heart, soul, and good taste into developing a modern but local - chic but approachable cocktail menu to rival any big city mixology bar. They are right at the bar serving drinks, talking it up, and giving recommendations. Their adorable dog Man also made an appearance. Great people and amazing drinks. We tried most of the menu, and I highly recommend the Night In Bangkok, Five Spice Negroni, and Karma. They don't serve food anymore, so they can focus on their cocktails. But they are 5 mins from the Chulia street...
