First impressions were quite good - impressive lobby and served with refresh towels and drink.
Very much a hit and miss. The location was good and central and close to a shopping mall which had a small supermarket, additionally convenience stores were also located close by. Rooms upon check in weren't ready, however was able to leave luggage until later in afternoon. Room was a reasonable size, 2 TVs (which we did not use), couch, small table & chairs, bar fridge, microwave, coffee machine.
So, on first glance everything looked fine. However, you could not use the amenities like the microwave without asking for crockery and cutlery. There was no cutting board, knife, bottle opener etc, as you would expect with a hotel room with a kitchenette - so you had to ring reception for everything. The couch was actually a sofa bed so it was very very uncomfortable to sit on as the metal bars went directly underneath the cushion where you would sit! We had to place pillows on the seats to make it somewhat bearable! The amenities for bathroom were also very small and so we had to continually ask for replenishments. Equally miserly was that there were only 2 (!!) tea bags available for use, and none replenished over the course of our week long stay.
The rooftop pool was nice and provided a good view of Penang and skyline. Complementary pool towels provided. There was another rooftop bar which was very breezy and had good views - we had 1 drink there and service was extremely slow.
The biggest surprise was the pamphlet showing the cost of all items should one wish to purchase them as a souvenir - right down to the teaspoon! (List included the iron, ironing board, the uncomfortable couch etc!!). Had never seen such a listing before in any hotel and basically concluded that it must be quite common for guests in this area to check out with "souvenirs" in tow! Quite a joke really.
Staff at reception were quite friendly however seemed to lack initiative with providing information (eg. water refill, CAT bus...

The bad:
The deluxe suite that we got is in the older block and has quite a few maintenance issues such as: light switch button came off when pressed. the bathroom had a flickering light. the ceiling of the bedroom had some water damage and wall chips. bed headboard is peeling off (which I thought initially was dust and upon closer inspection realised the material was starting to peel off) paintings have bubble warp in them and do not look professional. light switch mounted in the walls crooked.
My biggest complaint is that in the morning I noticed my bathroom light above the toilet bowl was flickering. I called to report this. When I got back in the afternoon, I noticed it had not been fixed and the flickering was even worse. When I reported it the second time around, the receptionist told me that maintenance came by and found nothing wrong. So I filmed it to show them proof. Then when I got back at 11pm at night for the third time, the light was flickering even worse and I was quite annoyed that I had to report this a THIRD time and wait for them to fix it in the middle of the night. What frustrated me further was they said maintenance came twice before and found no flickering light. Then when the third person came, he proceeded to change the wrong light above the sink which was clearly working fine without looking up to check which light was flickering. This was despite me telling them twice specifically that the light was situated above the toilet bowl. This was quite a frustrating experience for me.
When we asked to change rooms they said there were none available. Paying more than RM500 a night I expected better quality. So a bit...
