Penang's Magazine 63 is a well-kept hidden bar with a booming atmosphere and amazing cocktails and I was super happy to have discovered it during my trip to Malaysia last month! It happened to be Penang’s first high end Speakeasy bar and the electric atmosphere inside with a live DJ as well was just what I was looking for!

Although the location of the bar is not obvious from the outside, it is all part of its attractiveness and I really liked how completely unassuming it is from the outside but if you’re passing by well into the night, you’ll definitely be able to find it due to the swaths of people outside! I was welcomed by a lively atmosphere where everyone was having a good time and I really liked the unique interiors and cool artwork all around! The interior had a lovely design all over with brilliant colors that engage your senses properly. After hearing about all of the choices, I chose three different drinks from the menu that the staff had gone over and I was really pleased with everything I ate and drank here!

One of their signature drinks, Nv Er Hong, was the first thing I ordered. It comes in a bowl and is served differently from your typical cocktails and drinks. It was refreshing to see a bar focus on the overall aesthetic as well as the quality of the drink. Tequila, Cointreau, Rum, Gin, Vodka, and beer are among the six types of alcohol used in this cocktail. The combination was strong but smooth to drink, leaving a wonderful aftertaste with every sip. It had just the right amount of sweetness and bitterness to balance it out. They chose the ideal ratios to ensure that the drink offers the most flavor possible. I could taste the sweetness of the rum wonderfully balancing the bitter taste of the beer. It accentuated every taste and was the ideal accompaniment to salty foods. Their sweet potato fries and wings are ideal pairings and I thoroughly enjoyed them!

Yum Cha was the next drink I was eager to taste. With a base of Chrysanthemum Infused Gin, this drink was relatively refreshing compared to the Nv Er Hong. Thanks to the addition of Red Dates and Goji syrup, the infused gin took on a very nice, earthy and sweet taste. This resulted in a calming tea that was slightly elevated by gin.

I selected the Fuafuavela as my final drink, and it was the sweetest of all the drinks I've tried. The drink had a powerful, sweet flavor of vanilla and white chocolate along with a gorgeous, enticing aroma of vanilla thanks to the combination of vanilla vodka and vanilla syrup. The zesty notes of the passionfruit that was added to the beverage also worked incredibly well to balance the sweetness of the syrup and vodka. I thought it was amazing that this cocktail, which has a vodka base, became so easy to drink because of its sweetness and tropical flavors!

Overall, Magazine 63 is a hidden bar in Penang that provides an amazing experience with beautifully crafted fun drinks that pay homage to Chinese culture while adding a modern touch, and a vibrant atmosphere that makes you want to party all night long! Definitely check out this place if you want a memorable night...

The shop doesnt offer lot of space, build is in shape of one long rectangle seperated front part & back part. As for the front part, consist around 10+ table;back part 8 tables, there's few size of tables. There's staged singers in upstair by the front part, if you enjoy music can opt for this part.As for the back part is less volumn and can talk freely without worrying the volumn.

They offer very less variaty of big jar/bottle like around 3 type of drinks for person more den 2, tried 1 of it and taste quite different as it consist of whisky & redbull so its a little sweet. For the individual drinks, also tried 1 with the pineapple & coconut shred, not bad.

The ambient is quite good, interior design style is obviously as old time chinese shop, my friends says they definetely going back for second time. But the shop is quite small,so limited space. Strongly advice you make your booking in advance if you intented to go. Price is consider a little more than average, but it worth a shot,...

Hidden Bar with live music near 1st avenue. You'll need to park opposite street and walk over. No street parking option at all. Live music is the one that attracts us to go back if ever. Drink selection is prone to Chinese and looks like more local hangout. We had better services at another speakeasy bar, so their service is just average only. Their snacks option is limited. They were running out of truffle fries and doesn't even have regular fries. Normally, pub will provide nuts or snacks to much on. But not this one though. They will charge corkage fee if you bring your own alcohol. However, you may bring your own food provided they don't have that.
