Update: My second visit. Loved it again. Great vibes. Warm, attentive service and great coffee and icecream.

The white coffee cold was excellent. Strong coffee and no unnecessary sugary stories tagging along. The coconut pandan icecream and taro cheesecake were both excellent.

What's not to like 😍

Older review: This is how it should be. A big shout out to the young crew. A friendly welcome with smiling faces. Neat layout, with the top floor open to those who would like to order food. We had the white coffee hot, a strawberry matcha, a rose lychee soda cold and a slice of the lemon curd cake. The drinks were well made, in generous quantities and served pretty quickly. The cake had a good kick of the lemon curd. The place is sweet adorned with cute visuals and messages. Temperatures set just right and comfy seating options. Nice to take picture here but coffee and cake is just so-so. This is probably the only coffee & cake cafe that charges 10% service charge on total bill. Cake is pricey for the quality and taste.

I ordered these two. No pricing shown on menu for cakes and tarts. Blueberry cheese tart RM22 and cappuccino RM12

coffee is quite bitter like almost charcoal, slightly fragrant, slightly creamy. Medium roast but tastes bitter like dark. Served in paper cup for dine in.

As I lifted my fork and digged into the tart, oh gawd, the tart crust is so soft.. Not crunchy at all like biscuit "lau hong". It's not buttery at all, it's soft, slightly raw taste, slightly dry. If the tart crust is crunchy, I can still accept it. The tart has slightly sweet cream, fresh small blueberries, blueberry jam. Tastes OK.

Hence, 2 star from me. This is my 1st and last time going to Layer28 coffee. Just nice to take photo. Parking is super...

We came here to Penang on Vacation, and decided to wonder around the streets of George Town and came across this unique, cozy cafe. We walked in and the staff were very welcoming and helpful, providing suggestions and detailed descriptions on their items. We decided to order The Taro Cheesecake, The Iced Matcha Pistachio, and Iced Coffee Pistachio Latte. We really enjoyed the Taro Cheesecake, it was really unique and well balanced, something we really never have had before. We also enjoyed both the drinks, mainly the crunchy Pistachio within the drinks, was truely special.
