We came here as outside guests (not staying at Mariott) for dinner. As this was Ramadan month, we asked if we could be served, and that was possible, we could choose the buffet or the a la carte. Choosing the latter we were seated. It took long time for them to take our order (even though we had a small child with us and we were more than an hour before the start of the Iftar meals). AFTER we placed our order, a waiter came to us telling that we actually could not be served because of the Ramadan buffet - this was by that time unacceptable to us, especially because of our 1yo daughter who was getting hungry and tired. Fortunately they did manage to accomodate. When the food came, there was a dish missing, and the salad didn't include the avocado as stated on the menu (which was the reason for ordering it). Only later, when we were already half way through the meal were we informed that the missing dish was actually unavailable, and upon asking it appeared that they were out of avocado as well. Normally, and definitely at such restaurants, you would expect the staff to know this at time of ordering, or at lease come back immediately to notify the guests of these changes. Overall, the food that we did get was fine, but the atmosphere, the service and the overall feeling of being unwelcome was quite unpleasant. At least the...
Read moreHospitality with a nice dose of humanity. Few weeks ago, I walked in to get some fruits for my 1 yr old baby girl for breakfast. After being seated, I realized it was Marriott’s guest’s breakfast buffet and this would be an expensive ordeal for just some fruits. However, it had been a stressful few days and I told myself, the calming ambiance and great service would be worth it, and indeed it was. This staff, Ms. Yogeshwari (Yogesh) served us and entertained all my girl’s baby needs 😊 What really impressed me beyond the exceptional service and great food was that, she did not accept any payment as it was just few fruits for the baby. Not sure if it was my stressful, worn out face or just being kind to my baby…it was very impactful gesture. As I was walking out, the manager Mr. Selvam, also demonstrated his leadership by showing how much he cares for this team/staff. Well done Marriott in hiring such outstanding individuals to your staff. I will be recommending your spot to everyone who is planning a visit to Penang for their business and...
Read moreThe Coffee House service is atrocious.
Why?
Today is July 25 12.16pm...I challenge the GM to walk in and see whether there are any waiters or waitresses around.
Buffet is only for Group.
If u r not in a group? U r not entitled to have buffet?
And then I have to find the Assistant Manager to explain & this is the reply I get:
Priority is to serve Group.
And then after they have eaten halfway only individuals can be served.
But isn't Buffet self service.
Every hotel I go, they have no problems serving individual customers for Buffet or Ala Carter.
Seems that Courtyard Marriott has issues serving individuals
The Coffee House should then put up a Big Sign stating that it has been booked by Groups or preference is to serve Group
