Caro Caro Cafe offers more than just a meal—it delivers an experience. The moment you step inside, you’re embraced by serene 田园 (pastoral) vibes that transport you away from the city’s rush. The space is thoughtfully curated with lush greenery, warm wood accents, and a soft, natural aesthetic that invites you to slow down. The chill, cozy atmosphere makes it the perfect place for unwinding, catching up with friends, or simply enjoying a quiet afternoon.
The food, thankfully, lives up to the environment.
✔️ Truffle Mushroom Pasta (White) The pasta arrived beautifully plated with a creamy white sauce that was smooth and well-balanced. The truffle aroma was present but subtle, enhancing rather than overwhelming the dish. The mushrooms provided a satisfying earthiness, and the al dente pasta carried the flavors nicely. It’s a dish that feels indulgent yet comforting.
✔️ Karaage Chicken with Honey Mustard Perfectly crispy on the outside while remaining juicy inside. The karaage was skillfully fried—light, crunchy, and not greasy. Paired with the sweet, tangy honey mustard sauce, this dish hit a nice balance and was truly enjoyable as a sharing plate or a light main.
✔️ Curry Fish Rice Set A heartwarming dish with a fragrant, mildly spiced curry that complements the tender, fresh fish slices well. The rice was fluffy, and the portion was just right for a satisfying meal without feeling heavy. It’s a great choice if you’re looking for something homely yet flavorful.
✔️ Cappuccino Smooth, aromatic, and well-executed. The coffee had a nice crema, a balanced body, and wasn’t overly acidic—perfect for slowly sipping while soaking in the cafe’s calming ambiance.
Caro Caro Cafe beautifully combines aesthetic charm with solid, satisfying food. It’s not just Instagrammable—it’s a genuinely pleasant place to hang out, relax, or work quietly over coffee. If you’re looking for a peaceful spot with quality food, cozy seating, and a garden-like escape, this cafe is worth your time.
Food and drinks were delightful, complementing the relaxed setting beautifully. Caro Caro Cafe is definitely a place where you can slow down, soak in the cozy vibes, and just enjoy the moment. Highly recommended for a laid-back brunch or a casual catch-up spot.

The luscious greenery that greeted me as I approached the entrance was a much welcomed respite from the concrete jungle and heat on the outside. Upon stepping through the door, I felt as if invisible hands had lifted some weight off my shoulders, and injected a much needed jolt of energy into my being. The decor is a mixture of retro knick knacks and plants. I just love how the skylight area of the Peranakan Heritage architecture is fully taken advantage of to add so much greenery to the interior. That jolt of energy I felt must have come from the atmosphere with higher levels of oxygen.
The menu is extensive; ranging from breakfast, all-day brunches, lunch and dinner, and also a healthy variety of Western and Oriental cuisines from sandwiches, pastas and pizzas to rice dishes. Availability is dependant on the time of the day, and we managed to try the grilled chicken sandwich, butter cream spaghetti with scallops and their signature gulai fish. All dishes were scrumptious, but I have to give a special shout-out to the gulai fish; the gulai (curry) was a perfect balance of savory and spicy, and the fish was fresh, flaky and tender. The tomatoes, onions and okra in the gulai added the sweet and sour elements to make the flavors well-rounded. The side dishes that accompany it (sunny side up egg on a bed of warm rice, stir fried local spinach with dried shrimp and Szechuan vegetable soup) made me feel like I was having the best home-cooked meal. When my daughter mentioned that it tasted like her grandmother's cooking, that's a high compliment.
All the staff were attentive and friendly, and extremely skilled in maneuvering within the limited confines of the establishment whether they were delivering food to the tables or cleaning up after the customers. Highly recommended! Can't wait to...
Read moreWe, 5 of us visited this café at 8:35pm on 22.06.2025. We had a very bad experience with awful service and bad attitude. On that night, there was no table available for 5 persons. We asked the cashier whether we can join tables or not. He said their café policy does not allow joined tables. We decided to wait until a suitable table is available for us. After 10 minutes, the table is available, the cashier said they are too busy as there are too many orders. But actually, the too many orders refer to only 2 tables with 7 people. We waited for 30 minutes for them to do the cleaning. And we tried to tidy up the table. He shouted at us that the customer is not allowed to clean the table. We were so embarrassed. How come he can do such a thing to us. When we asked for food recommendation, he said go and scan the QR code on the menu. Then he walked away. We used the QR code and it guided us to FB. When we want to make the order, he did not allow other staff to take our order and kept us waiting for more than 5 minutes. At the same time, he showed his sour face that he is not happy with us. He coupled his sour face with his body language and banged the cup at the counter there.
I strongly believe the boss know about this and still allowed him to behave badly to the customer. Or else why are there so many complaints online but he still there to continue his bad service to others. Maybe the business is so good that the boss needed him to tone down the business a little.
Food is good, nice environment but we surely will not go back there again. In Penang, there are so many cafés serving good food, comfortable environment, good service and value for money. Why should we go there again for his bad service and sour face ? Really disappointed with it. The bad service made the good food and the environment...
