When you browse on Google where to eat and you come across a 5.0 star restaurant that has 150 reviews, you must visit it! 😀 This is how I discovered Tem Xim Charcoal Mookata in Georgetown.
As it turns out, it’s a lovely family-run restaurant.
Given the reviews, I was indeed intrigued to try - also, because Thai mookata is one of my favourites. 😊
We went there on the third day of the CNY and the place was packed! We waited for good 10 minutes and were lucky to get a table inside this fast.
The menu consists of multiple set options - we chose their Set A for 2-3 pax, which came with pork slices, vegetables, meat, fish and squid balls, glass noodles, mushrooms - basically everything you need for a nice dinner! 😍
There is a menu to choose a la carte as well, in case you want to and it’s pretty extensive. A big variety of vegetables, balls, meats, seafood and other items. I’m sure even the pickiest people will find what they want. 😀
Each table also has three types of homemade Chili - non-spicy, a bit spicy and spicy - to cater to everyone’s taste. I loved the spicy one, and the aunty even gave me to try their extra spicy chili, which was indeed very spicy but also super good! 🌶
I also ordered a big ambra juice - as you can see in the picture, it’s really huge! Barely fits in a picture 😀 and tasted so good! Really refreshing and not too sweet.
However, the biggest praise goes to the aunty who was the sweetest. She made sure that everyone had enough and asked multiple times if everything was fine. She was very friendly and attentive and made the whole experience worth 6 stars! 🥰
At the end of the dinner, there is a complimentary ice cream potong - and the variety to choose from is huge! 🍦
I’m definitely coming back next time I’m in Penang! It makes sense why people love this place so much! Super highly...
Read moreWe have decided to go to this place because it is the first time we see a restaurant with 5 stars in google with almost 450 reviews, and definitely they really deserve this calification. I can say that this restaurant is one of the best restaurants I ever went. I will explain the reasons why:
This is a charcoal mookata eatery. Came here after hearing such good reviews. I came here with my partner and we ordered the set A and C of the menu which comes with a plate of mixed vegetables, some glass noodles, meat balls as well as a plate of sliced pork for bbq. Set C is like the cooked meat, consist of the signature pork bbq skewers, taiwanese sausage, chicken wings and some fried luncheon meat. Ingredients are fresh, the pork has no porky smell which is good. I was just wondering if the glass noodles can be changed to some other types of noodles.. I wasn't a big fan of glass noodles. I want to give credit to the bbq chicken wings and the pork skewer. The chicken wings are very tender, the meat literally falls off its bone. The marinate is very good. I absolutely love their chilly. From the mild one to the max spiciness. They are all very good. Flavourful and aromatic.
After the meal we were given ice cream.
The ventilation wasn't as good as what most people claim. I was sitting at the middle compartment, and there was a fan blowing in front of me.. since the charcoal is just right front of me, the fan literally blows the heat and smoke right into my face. There is no particular direction of air flow... It wasn't hot, but it was really stuffy in there.
The staffs are very attentive. They are quick on their toes, but maybe I went on a public holiday it was very crowded, the waiting time was almost 30 minutes.
Overall it is a nice...
