I ended up staying 7 nights here in two rooms types. Part of that time was with a friend. We spent 6 nights in a deluxe double and I spent 1 night in a single cabin room.
The staff were incredibly friendly and hospitable. Since we planned to stay so long, we broke to booking into multiple reservations so that if the hotel didn't meet our expectations, we could easily cancel. But it met our expectations perfectly, and they were able to combine our deluxe-double bookings so we didn't have to switch rooms the entire time we were there. Also, I they helped me order something on Shopee that I would not have been able to get otherwise, because I don't have a Malaysian number and Shopee requires it. They were able to answer any of my questions to the best of their ability, abd even the cleaning staff was super friendly. Literally everything was spotless. If you want a clean hotel, this is the one for you. They clearly care about hygiene and still have hand sanitizer in the lobby and ground floor. The deluxe double was big with a lovely view over the clan jetties. The cabin room is on the first floor (really the third floor because there it the ground floor and lobby below it) and also had a view over the clan jetties. The beds are comfortable, but the twin beds in the deluxe double seemed more cushiony than the one in the single cabin room. The location is fantastic. You can walk most places on Georgetown within 20 minutes. There is also a bus stop around the corner. I didn't know until my last day, but there is a free shuttle bus toh can take to points within the heritage part of Georgetown. Also there were connections to other parts of the island.
Take note of the following: -Reception is only open from 8am to 11pm, so if you have a very late arrival flight or train, you may want to inform them in advance. Tap water is clean and safe to drink. They don't provide bottled water but I am ok with this. I would rather use filtered clean tap water than waste plastic bottles. It was a refreshing change to be able to just drink the tap water. The hotel-wide wifi worked well when it worked, but they definitely have some sort of configuration error that wasn't properly assigning IP addresses because sometimes we would both get "connected without internet". The TV, which is connected via Ethernet cable, can act as a wifi hotspot when it's on. So that's a backup option if the hotel wifi stops working. However they should really look into what's going on with their main wifi. All of the windows are locked shut. Maybe this is a safety issue from the 6th floor, but it would have been nice to at least be able to open the bathroom window for some air. The TV can connect to YouTube and a few other apps, and you can sync your phone with the YouTube app. But there is no universal cast from your mobile device option, and there is no connect-your-netflix-account option, which would have been nice. Some hotels have smart tvs where your Netflix account settings are good while the TV is on, and you have to reconnect each time you turn on the TV. It would have been nice to have that option.
Overall Savv was a wonderful choice for my weeklong stay in Penang. I wouldn't hesitate to...
Read moreI had such a fantastic stay at Savv. I was lucky to find this hotel which offers single rooms for solo travellers. Not only that it is more affordable, the room is so well designed that it doesn't make you feel claustrophobic. The pictures shown on the website do not reflect the actual size of the room. The cabin room is actually very spacious for a single occupier. There is a long hallway between the door and the bed which makes the room very functional. The hotel is relatively new and the vibe is modern and warm. As a clean freak, I am very impressed with the cleanliness of the hotel. They have sanitisers every where and excellent hygiene standards. I always like to "inspect" the room upon first entry by looking for hairs on floors or dust in hidden corners but I couldn't find anything in the room. The room is facing one of the main streets and you can hear the traffic quite clearly. It does not bother me because I like a bit of noise when staying in an unfamiliar place alone especially at night. If you are a light sleeper, then bring ear plugs! The hotel has 24hr security with a guard sitting at the entrance who does his job very well and checks to make sure you are a hotel guest every time until he becomes familiar with you. As a solo traveller, safety is my priority and I couldn't have felt more impressed. Angel, who is at the reception all the time is super friendly and helpful. The housekeeping team is also very warm and friendly. I forgot to ask for her name but this lovely lady gave me a very pretty face mask because I complimented the one she was wearing one day. She did my laundry and hand washed my new garments for me. I couldn't have asked for more. The hotel is very close to the famous Chew Jetty and many other tourist attractions. Everything in George Town is within walking distance if you can put up with the heat and humidity. If not, Grab comes to your door step and is extremely affordable. The hotel doesn't have any food outlets but no one will eat at hotel restaurants in Penang! Go out and explore the abundance of crazy yummy food around! One of the popular dessert cafes China House is just around the corner. And this famous chinese pastry store Ming Xiang Tai with their famous egg tarts is also 2 minutes away by foot. I cannot recommend this place highly enough to travellers who like to stay in a place which makes you feel like home. This is the beauty of a small hotel. The service is very personalised and you feel very attended. Staying at Savv Hotel is definitely one of the highlights of my...
Read moreReview for stay January 2025 It has been more than a year since we last stayed at Savv hotel. This time we had the studio room for three nights. Savv still didn't disappoint. Cleanliness and friendliness, good responsive service were the same as before. We felt totally at home and safe to stay here. The studio room is spacious, even with a king size bed and two single beds, with plenty of room for to move around. Savv will always be our choice to stay in Penang.
Review for stay in August 2023 We returned to Savv for another 4 night stay. Everyone at the hotel was so cheerful and made us feel like coming home. Really grateful to Angel for going through great length to help with the booking of additional night at the last minute.
Rooms were immaculately clean, spacious and quiet. We felt safe staying there with its good level of security. This time round we enjoyed the outdoor dining area more often and the staff always were there to offer cold water and cutleries for us to enjoy our take away food. Thanks to an Indian gentleman at the reception at night (sorry I forgot your name) who delivered our laundry to our room.
Hope to return soon!
Review for stay in June 2023 Our family stayed at Savv for 3 nights. The rooms were immaculate and well appointed, spacious especially the bathroom. The Savv Premium room has a L shaped balcony with outdoor chairs and table which was nice for enjoying the sea view, sunrise and the breeze. After a hot and tiring day out, sitting at the balcony with a cold drink is such a bliss. Although we faced the street, the sound proofing was good that I could sleep through the night as I am a very light sleeper.
We found that this location is perfect for a gastronomic holiday. The hotel is right across from the tourist attraction Chew jetty and close to many heritage buildings and temples. It is also easy to get a e-hailing car at the hotel and only a short ride into city centre.
People at the Savv are cheerful, helpful and responsive. They made us feel at home, always happy and go out of their way to help with bookings, laundry, tips and advice on the best eating places. Special thanks to Kathy, Angel and Wen Xing for the wonderful stay at Savv. We are already looking forward to...
