亚明潮式鱼头鱼汤(RESTORAN CM) — Restaurant in Johor

The correct name of this coffee shop style restaurant is actually 亜明潮式鱼湯 although the restaurant shop front reads Restoran CM. Simple seating, sheltered from the hot afternoon sun and airy with the ceiling fans. The staffs are friendly and the restaurant is popular with the locals and some seems to be regular customers. The restaurant specialises in fish dishes. The menu offers from simple fish meat bee hoon soup , stir fried fish to better grade quality fish such as the red grouper priced at market price. We had steamed Red Grouper in Teochew style, their famous Otah and Stir Fried Kang Kung & potato leaves during our visit for a late lunch. Teochew Steam Fish (Red Grouper, 500g 100rm): The fish was GREAT, super fresh, but what completed the dish for me was the soup. It was sour with a slight sweetness, sooo appetising and refreshing. Helps that there’s a small fire to keep it hot throughout the meal. Even towards the end, when I rotated back to this soup, my tongue continued to dance like my very first bite.

Fried Sambal Prawns: Again, very fresh. Sambal sauce was not overpowering, it was more shrimp paste than chili, which was important to not ‘waste’ the freshness of the prawns.

The steamed fish was fresh and well-prepared, with several varieties to choose from. I particularly enjoyed the soupy version — light, flavorful, and didn’t taste like it had any MSG, which was a plus. The bittergourd with fresh egg was a standout — cooked just right with a nice balance of textures.

The vegetable dish was average and didn’t quite match the quality of the other items. Drinks were a letdown, with no fresh lemon or lime options available.
