Donkey and I were on a staycation at KSL and decided to try Restoran Hao Bi for lunch after checking out. I'd been raving about their famous Dangi duck for years, and finally, I had the chance to bring Donkey to try it out. It's a short walk from KSL, about 10 minutes, but it was a bit of a climb up a slope on a hot day.
We were surprised to find the restaurant wasn't very crowded, especially for lunchtime. We figured it might be because of the heat, and people preferred to stay cool in the air conditioning at KSL. But honestly, this place has been around for ages, serving amazing duck long before KSL was even built. Donkey remember coming here a few times several years ago, and the Dugui duck was always a treat.
We ordered the Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis) Herbal Roasted Duck, Roasted Pork Belly with Soy Sauce, and Wantan Mee with Honey Pork, a perfect combination of flavors and textures!
Donkey loved everything, and was surprised that the restaurant wasn't busier. The place has also been renovated since I last visited, and now has air conditioning, which made it even more comfortable. Donkey enjoyed a refreshing bottle of Guinness to complement the delicious meal.
The pricing was reasonable, and the service was great. The only minor drawback was the lack of a glass door, which led to a few houseflies buzzing around during our meal. But honestly, it didn’t detract from the overall experience. The food was exceptional, and I’m sure the restaurant will be just as busy in the evening as it used to be.
If you're looking for a delicious duck dish, I highly recommend Restoran Hao Bi! We heard that the famous Dian Xiao Er restaurant in Singapore actually got its chef from here, and the taste of the duck is very similar. Not sure if it's true.
Overall, Restoran Hao Bi is a hidden gem for duck lovers in Johor Bahru. The food is excellent, the prices are reasonable, and the service is friendly. The only small drawback is the lack of a glass door, which can lead to some pesky flies. But for a delicious and memorable meal, I highly recommend giving this...

Read moreI felt the price is very steep. Ordered a 3拼 at rm65. The portion is not even enough for 1.5 pax. Mind you we are all small eaters. Char siew we’re only 6-7 think pieces, one duck drum, and about 10-12cm of roasted pork. The food taste is not very nice too, I saw them using the microwave to heat up their meat, which is a HUGE turn off….
We also ordered other veg, claypot tofu and wanton soup… the wanton soup only came when we were all almost done with the food… the cook or the boss was soooo busy with his million dollar phone business…
And the coffee…. Worst then drain water… we ordered big knowing we need coffee dose each morning… but matter of fact, the big is just taller than the regular cup…. And smaller circumference…
Paid RM150++ in total, and I have up go elsewhere to get my daily dose of coffee, and toast, to brighten and stay my day…....
