Alright, folks, Donkey and I were looking for a good breakfast spot near our hotel, and we stumbled upon Heng Wah Kopitiam Holiday Villa. We were immediately drawn to the menu, as it had many of my favorites and also included Donkey's favorites: steam bread! It's hard to find good steam bread nowadays, so we were very excited.

The Good:

• The Atmosphere: The kopitiam is cozy and well-renovated, with a wonderful, nostalgic vibe, taking you back to a bygone era. They serve their coffee and tea in traditional cups, adding to the authentic feel. It's like stepping back in time and experiencing a piece of old-world charm in a modern setting.

• The Staff: The staff is friendly and helpful. They even gave us recommendations for some of my favorite dishes!

• The Steamed Bread: The steamed bread was a real highlight! It was perfectly soft and fluffy, served with a generous amount of kaya and condensed milk. It was absolutely delicious, especially since it was still steaming hot.

The Quirks:

• The Food: The prices were reasonable, but the food was just "okay." While it wasn't bad, it wasn't particularly memorable. We found the wonton mee to be a bit different, with a white sauce instead of the usual dark sauce but I still like it.

Donkey's Note: I really enjoyed the steamed bread! It was perfect!

My Note: I'm so glad we stopped by Heng Wah! The atmosphere was really lovely, and the steamed bread was a real treat.

Rating:

• Atmosphere: 4/5 (Cozy and nostalgic)

• Staff: 5/5 (Friendly and helpful)

• Food: 3.5/5 (The steamed bread was excellent, but the main dishes were just okay)

• Overall: 4/5

Overall, we had a decent experience although there are some mixed reviews. The atmosphere is lovely, the service is friendly, and the steamed bread is a real treat. While the main dishes weren't anything special, the nostalgia and the delicious bread made the experience...

Not a good place for coffee, snacks, or chilling out. Came here with my gf and her family on a weekday late afternoon for coffee/tea. The place looked weird, like a mish-mash of old and new designs, and an odd rack of Labubus in the corner.

Coffee and tea were ok. Just normal standard. nothing to crow about.

But the snacks were not nice:

  1. The currypuff was bland and pastry skin not crispy. It was just soggy.
  2. Portuguese egg tarts were tiny and bland. no taste at all. totally not worth it. it was expensive too!
  3. The steam bread with Kaya and Condensed Milk was weird. The bread was too soggy. And kaya was bland.

Honestly not worth the price.

And regarding the service. There was barely anyone there, but service was extremely slow. When I asked the staff at the cashier where our orders were, he just said "I don't know" and went back to play his games. Fortunately the drinks arrived shortly.

But the snacks too so long to arrive. Staff were generally just chit-chatting or busy with something (although there were few customers).

Would I come here again?...
