Visited 2 days in a row recently:
Had their well-known pisang goreng for our high-tea : the fried flour is covered thinly as compared to others sold outside, thus it is sweet yet not jelak (means you can have it at multiple servings!). What surprises us is their special sambal sauce - adds another flavour to your usual pisang goreng; unique yet tasty Cheng Tng : Taste like wedding's 红枣茶 , fragrant dates yet decently sweet. An appetising dessert Red bean with black glutinous soup : Another surprising combination, together with coconut milk and white sago, you will ask for more!
Therefore, we visited this place for our breakfast before we went back to SG: Snowy Polo Bun : Not our usual Polo Bun where we will feel overly salty due to too much butter; this in fact feels like marshmellow with a faint buttery taste Egg Tart : This is definitely a must-try here; decently fragrant egg smells with buttery & flaky crust; KFC's egg tart has found its long lost brother! This brother is of course, less oily than KFC's Signature Kopi : Home-brewed beverage never fails us; not as bitter, good for "kids" like us, super fragrant with a little sour aftertaste Fried Mee Siam : A little disappointed as the bee hoon are cumpled together, texture is tough, feels uncooked. I prefer moist and soft bee hoon, with strong mee siam sauce flavour. Gula Melaka Soya Bean : Definitely a must-try and please drink it warm! Gula melaka adds extra fragrance without overwhelming the taste of the soya bean. Perfect ratio. Honey Lemon (Hot) : I often taste this beverage like a lemon detergent. However this drink ordered here is much different. Warms my throat very well, and their real honey ratio portion doesn't make your throat more worse. A very soothing drink. Kolo Mee : Another must-try dish!! At first we thought we have to get the dark version to have a stronger taste. We were wrong. The white version is enough. The sauce suits the mee perfectly and is very addictive. A perfect comfort food. Fried Chicken Nasi Lemak : Decent nasi lemak with well-fried and tender chicken! Butter Toast : Made on the spot, can "fight" with other well-known kopi cafes Banana cake : Tbh, slightly better than some well-known shop. However, it could be better if you can add lesser butter to it (I can see the dense pattern at the cross section, lower part of the cake, which indicates too much butter is added) We might feel jelak after one; kinda oily.
Services & atmosphere: Feels like a home!! Affordable prices (really shocked me when i see the bill) & superb services by Mdm Tan, Indian lady whom speak better Mandarin than our younger gen & other staffs whom often check with us if their food suit our palate. We even chatted with them like we have known them for a long time!! We will definitely visit again with our family and friends when we travel to Malaysia. (Fingers crossed - hope we don't have long queues after i submit such a...
Read moreCafe style Kopitiam that maybe Pork Free or even Halal as there's Malay workers. It offers local food like Nasi Lemak with Chicken Tenders, Mee Kolo with Wan Tan, Curry Laksa, Tom Yam Lao Shu Fen, Keropok Lekor (Thick), Egg Tart, Bojari Rice with Chicken/Lamb, Mee Rebus, Snow Fungus, etc. Prices below not yet include Service Charges and Tax.
Atmosphere: 4🌟 Solid but small tables and the chairs also super small. They have long seats which feels better but unfortunately it was blocked/reserve as some company is doing a meeting there (took up almost 50% of those seats). They clap loudly from time to time and it makes you feel like joining in and clapping as well. I feel they should find some place with proper room for such a situation.
Services: 4🌟 Seems very attentive.
Food: Bojari with Bali Chicken 3.75🌟 Rice 3.5🌟, Chicken 3.75🌟, Sambal 4🌟, Acar 3🌟 'Smokey' Bojari rice tastes pretty decent by itself (Basmati long type rice) and is visually colorful. Acar is too sour for me. Chicken (L Shape; Thigh + Drumstick) has crispy skin and pretty tender meat and the flavour is very nice. The best in this dish is the sambal l, very fragrant slightly spicy, sweet and sour (Asam I think). Priced at Rm 18.90++
Snacks: Egg Tart 3🌟 Very normal, the skin is thin but it does sort of stick together instead of separately hence it's actually not fluffy. It's not crispy either, at most it has some slight crisp to it. It doesn't have a strong nice butter fragrance to it either. The egg part has a nice texture but the milk fragrance and flavour is not very strong. Priced at Rm 3.90++ is a bit pricey
Drinks: Kopi C (Cold) 3.25🌟 Ordered Large and less sweet, indeed very less sweet but it's not very large, the glass diameter is definitely bigger but I'm not sure if it's larger than.usual glass. The coffee fragrance seems quite minimal though but I do like it's not 70% ice, it's about 15% and it does have nice looking foam on top. Priced at Rm 6.50++ for normal and Rm...
Read moreSince the post pandemic, I've been looking out for the best kopi/teh C and the kaya toast which the locals endearingly called "Roti Bakar". There were a few others but it's nothing quite like the one at Padi Kopitiam. The perfect slices of chilled butter against the crispness of the white bread, with a marginally spread of their homemade kaya (I presumed). All that was left on my tastebud was that wholesome butter-y and I'm missing the kaya sweetness. Which I'm totally fine with, strangely so I don't find it jelak!
Alrighty now coffee talk (literally). Here the coffee is similar to Singapore kopitiam wannabe standards and definitely a tad better than some local big kopitiam boys such as Hua Mui, the Toast and Oriental Kopi. The bitterness and the evaporated milk creaminess is well balanced. To me again this is a winner, well at least I'm happy with my Joe.
Okay now to the main meal. I ordered my "happy meal" ( I usually term that for any pairing of fried noodle with chicken). Mee Siam goreng and chicken rendang it was. Not as exciting as the food presentation and great service. Mee siam goreng didn't actually lived up to its name, more so like it's mee hoon goreng saja. I'm not crazy about the sambal too. However, the seasoning was just right- unusual for Asian standards, not overpowering, no taste of sweetness...now wait or was it my taste buds? The chicken portion though was too small. And yes the meal was missing an egg, at least?
According to the service staff, their nasi lemak and the other mee Siam goreng with fried chicken are their sellables. Anything to do with rice, I will have to pass till my next quota lol. Their polo buns and egg tarts are also in house hits. I'll reserve that on the next visit. BTW this cafe opens daily from 0800hrs until last order at 1730hrs.
All in all, this was a pleasant experience- the ambience and friendly...
