Was sceptical about staying in this hotel in the beginning due to the low reviews but decided to try it out due to the affordable rate and close proximity to the JB CIQ. Overall our stay was ok. Room and the toilet was clean. The bed was comfortable and the sheets were cleaned. Bed had 2 pillows and a bolster. The room had a vintage 80s 90s look. Bedside table looks like the original bedside table when the hotel first opened. Toilet while the design is old is clean. Shower is by instant water heater instead of centralised hot water system. Water is slightly yellowish which I think due to the old G.I piping system still in use the hotel. Lifts is very fast although the buttons and indicators is vintage 80s. From grd to 19th floor was smooth to me although some may not be comfortable due to its old age. Air con was very cold. For some reason the thermostat for the aircon was placed at high level above the toilet door, at the hotel room entrance. I don't know if it is a JB thing for hotels in this price range, but during our 4 night stay our room was not cleaned, water not replenished etc. was expecting a hotel to clean the room everyday but for some reason the room was not cleaned. I was surprised to come late at night after a day trip to Singapore to find out room not cleaned. Experienced something similar during our stay at a hotel at Jalan Meldrum early this month. This hotel has a very good location with the future RTS station right opposite the hotel. The views from the upper floors of JB is very good. But at this time the building is in dire need of a full refurbishment as especially it's lift, plumbing system.

So we just stayed a night at JO Hotel to R&R before an early morning departure the next day (left for KL at 0630 hrs), and here is our opinion of the place: Pros: - JO Hotel is in a central location, being a short 5 minute drive from JB City Square and the lobby area has been nicely refreshed too (along with the repainted complex itself), makes the place seem like a new hotel. - There is ample free parking for hotel guests, with on-ground and basement options. - The Family Room we booked was a good deal (RM190/night) and it was huge, with separate living room and bedroom areas - like a suite. - Considering the building was built in the late 70s and still uses “blinking light” floor numbering, the elevator to our room at Level 21 moved at a really fast speed! Cons: - Despite the repainted walls, new beds, and updated TV, the old-school feel of the room is still pretty noticeable - a relic from the days of Tropical Inn. - The air-con system needs to be upgraded to a split type as despite the setting on “High”, the room felt pretty warm the whole night. - The bidet switch was faulty and couldn’t be turned off when my son used it, until I managed to tighten the head and twisted it to close the valve. - The toilet still uses an old bathtub with curtains, another item from the old days, and should be replaced with a stand shower - which is what many hotels have been doing nowadays (and tubs are pretty infamous for causing accidental falls while showering)! - While there was free wireless internet, it seems pretty slow and spotty at times.

First time I've been to a hotel that feels haunted. The first night we were there, the elevator stopped on a level that is under construction to be picked up erm... Nobody? Anyways, I suppose you get what you pay for. One night was about rm140 for two person room with free breakfast. The buffet breakfast was a lie. They don't serve it during ramadhan period. We were lucky though, cause they had an event during the next few days we were there with plenty of guests so they opened up the buffet table, which had really limited options. Basically deconstructed nasi lemak (boiled eggs, rice, sambal, anchovies) and toast with salad. Better than nothing, I suppose. The coffee was really good though!! The room itself was... Decent. Key card activate electronics in the room. Air-conditioning ranges are from too-hot, to freezing with no happy in between. The ventilation in the toilet is a gap on the ceiling. It's quite obvious that they're really old.

STAY AWAY! Yellow water, musty odor in the room, cleaning service had their lunch in the room they're preparing for you, while the other cleaning service staffs just do their job WITHOUT wearing their masks.||||||FULL STORY:||I booked a room for a short family vacation at the end of April 2022, the hotel was a bit discreet from the outside, and the local grab driver couldn't find it easily.||||When we arrived at the premises, we had to wait for about 30 mins in the lobby.||Once we got the key, we went up through the lift.||The lift was super old (like the lift that you see in old apartments).||And when we reached the 19 floor, where our hotel room is, we were quite surprised that we smelled cigarette smokes right after the lift door was opened. It was like the whole floor was a smoking-friendly zone, and our non-smoking room was the only one different there.||||When we reached the room, we saw the cleaning service ladies still doing their job (WITHOUT wearing their masks!!!) so we had to wait outside of the room for another 5-10 mins. While waiting, we realized that some of the ladies were having their lunch in the room (that they were preparing for the guests??? shouldn't they have their lunch somewhere else??).||||After they were done with their business, we went into the room, put down our luggage & checked how to change the aircon temp & fan speed, what was there in the minibar, which button turns on/off which lamp, etc., including the shower & sink.||||To our surprise, the water was YELLOW (as yellow as the liquid soap provided).||While the adults might still be able to tolerate the water quality, because we were traveling with a baby, we decided to find another hotel right away.||||Then we went down to the receptionist and when I told her about the situation, she apologized right away that there was nothing they could do except for refunding my booking (she told me that the hotel was fully booked).||However, because the booking was made through Traveloka using my credit card (and Traveloka didn't allow a refund for this booking), she told me that they will transfer the money to my bank account instead (which was why I gave her the bank account number).||||This case has been in dispute in Traveloka for almost 3 months until today, July 28th, 2022.||I've submitted my review in Traveloka, but it's not displayed in the hotel review at all.||(I don't know whether it's Traveloka or the hotel that blocked my review to be displayed. Let's guess whose rotten way of business blocked their customers' honest reviews, instead of admitting their mistakes & try to find a way to fix them and improve)||||We moved to another accommodation right away on the same day, and the new place actually provided us with a lot better place (newer building), better environments, better facilities, super friendly & honest staff, and much cheaper...

Pro : nice view from high floor, you may enjoy the night city lights.

And that’s it. Now here comes the con (trust me it is not good, even for a 1 night overnighter)

Cons : toilet was horrifying which I strongly think that toilet is the place at least to be clean but unfortunately no.

  1. sink got yellowish stain
  2. toilet bowl water was yellowish always even after flush
  3. toilet got half alive roach awaiting for me to clear for them (yes! Called for housekeeping and front desk told me : “sorry sir but housekeeping ends at 6pm and we can’t help you with anything.” So I told her about my roach problem and they ask me if it is dead or alive? (Like why bother? Get the cleaner right) oh yea so they told me they can’t do much and didn’t even offer any solution. So I ask for broom and dustpan, at least I clear the roach after killing it so my family can proceed with toilet errands yea…they tell me : “sir I don’t know where the broom and dustpan is” FUUUUYYYOOHHH BEST PE! don’t know where the broom and dustpan. Eh but luckily the girl managed to find me a old broom la..luckily can sweep my lil friend into the bin.

Oh and the kettle dirt yellow water. Terrible one..change kettle already still same yellow. I think must be some water filtration whatsoever. Cups also dirty. Must clean with soap uh everyone before use..so ya la..

But one more thing I must praise this hotel. Wifi really good. That’s how I can post my reviews here speedily so whoever coming in next…take care la uh! Don’t expect to highly of this place despite the advertising pictures. All the meitu, snapseed or photoshop gimmick. Hahahaha

No heart feelings y’all!...
