Arrived on a weekend at about 830 and was shocked to see the queue was so long! I was wondering whether to give up but thankfully there were a few groups in front which gave up so the queue became slightly shorter which I still had to queue about 30 minutes to get a seat. Queuing was quite systematic and they made use of the queuing time to hand us the menu to take our orders so they can be processed when we have gotten a table. Although we sat down we still waited for some time for the food to be served probably due to the number of people and orders. Was initially quite disappointed when I saw the portions and the food from the neighboring tables, and some even said it's bad and are not coming again. I just had to wait for the food to come and judge for myself. Ordered quite a bit, the har gao and siew mai were actually not that bad, the shrimp and water chestnut beancurd roll did look a little pathetic and tasteless. Thought the water chestnut would give the crunch element but it didn't. The cheong fun rolls were okay, nothing special. Salted egg bun we had it immediately when was served so it was piping hot and delicious. The 3 in 1 porridge was not bad, though the porridge didn't even look like porridge I won't even call it congee it just tasted like thick starch. Deep fried yam was not bad and the egg tart wasn't in the menu and the staff walked around asking if people were interested and we ordered and it was also pretty average. The abalone glutinous rice was the one we felt was quite a rip off comparing the size and the price. It's also the item we felt was the most overrated and not worth ordering. I felt that the food was okay but not as bad as the neighboring customers would say. It's overall average and nothing to shout about. The price is quite okay but if you ask me there are of course better competitors around, but one of the pros is probably you get to dine in an air-conditioned...
Read moreCrowded when we came at lunch hours on Saturday. Waited for about 20 minutes for a table of 2. Food was ordered at 12:31PM after we came in at 12:21PM. Food was served quite slowly 1 dish at a time. After we finished everything, we waited till 1:15PM before asking the server where is our Xiao Long Bao? Because I saw another couple’s table who sat after us at about 1PM, they received their full table of dimsum including the Xiao Long Bao. Which was weird as we came in and ordered way before. After we probe the server, she apologised and said the order never went through for the xiao long bao & Cantonese Siew Mai, hence the delay. The server no choice then took another table’s Xiao long bao to serve us first because I was quite unhappy for the long waiting time + having to see another table coming in late & getting their XLB before we do.
The Chinese server was quite responsive & also asked us if we can wait 7 mins for the Cantonese Siew Mai. We hesitantly said ok. But we wait more than 10 mins for it to be served, I wanted to leave & stood up, but the rest of the server does not seems to care.
Overall, the food: • Siew Mai & Cantonese Siew Mai can be missed out to try here. • Har Gao are juicy • Xiao Long Bao’s soup inside tasted different from other XLB but difficult to eat due to it placed in a aluminium tray meant for tarts. It can be hot to pick up. • Salted Lava Buns are great! Although skin of bun abit thick. • Glutinous Rice aka Lo Mai Gai is soggy & soft, with lots of flavour. I like it soggy rather than dry and hard. • Fried Radish Cake - although abit salty but it’s to die for! Flavourful!
Overall, it started out all good but except the fact that they missed out 2 of our items - which no other staff came to check about until I asked about it. Waiting 1 hour for xlb is...
Read moreI was brought to this dim sum place by a local friend - indeed a wonderful place for dim sum.
We arrived around 9.30am and there was already a queue with the expected waiting time of at least 35 minutes. While waiting, we were given the menu to place our orders first on the order paper for efficiency. During our turn, the staff asked if we wanted an outdoor seating or indoor seating - outdoor seating available immediately while some waiting time for indoor seating. We opted for the indoor seating due to the hot and sunny weather (also, the queue snakes next to you while you are dining outdoors - less of a privacy).
For a table of two, we ordered the usual Siew Mai (Pork Dumpling), Har Gao (Shrimp Dumpling), Har Mai (White Jade Shrimp Siew Mai), Otah Siew Mai, Shrimp Bean Curd Roll, Golden Custard Lava Roll, Char Siew Steamed Rice Roll and Vegetarian Spring Rolls.
There was some disappointment with the Siew Mai as it tasted a little bland and for the Har Gao, while it tasted just right, the skin is thicker than expected. The Otah Siew Mai was quite a novel idea, but nothing special other than the usual Otah wrapped with omelette skin.
The Char Siew Steamed Rice Roll was not as smooth, but the Char Siew filling was delicious enough to make up for the subpar rice rolls. Of all the steamed dishes, the Har Mai is the best with the right taste and consistency.
For the fried items, most dishes were delicious but the Golden Custard Lava Roll exceeded my expectations. The Fried Vegetarian Spring Roll was indeed value for money due to its bigger-than-the-usual size.
There were other interesting dim sum on the menu; some will be launched soon (though mentioned launching in July but still unavailable). Probably, I will be back to try other food items...
