Firstly the google location is wrong, we were lost but managed to locate it in Taman Sri Tebrau Hawker Centre, which is the same area as Hai Kee. The atmosphere is like any other night hawker, hot and messy (aka dirty for those who are not used to wet markets). As it is located in a hawker centre, there are other food options too, so you can mix and match to cater to everyone's diet. Next to this restaurant is a Yong tau foo store which serve childhood quality yong tau foo and soup base (which I do recommend too).
We had early dinner, reaching around 6pm. Not very long wait time, but as there was a huge party infont of us, there was some waiting time in between the dishes. We had the following:
I would only come back here for the crayfish as it was the most valued. I normally frequent Chua Kee at Gelang Patah for my crab cravings and so far it hasn't...
Read moreReally amazing food and zichar here, especially the super delectable butter crayfish! Crayfish was fresh and succulent and sizeable, tasting almost like lobster, and the butter crisps were so well done and crispy and tasty that we were just eating and gobbling it up and putting it atop the rice.
Prawn paste chicken wings and the ikan Bakar (stingray) were also so yummy. The sambal stingray was fat and succulent, meat is tender and thick and a very reasonable size for the small portion.
We also got the hot plate beancurd, sanlou beehoon (which had wokhei), sambal kangkong, grilled squid, omelette cai poh, and some drinks and satay for 4 people, all for around RM 300, which was affordable considering the seafood we got (butter crayfish was RM 120 for 1kg).
Small portions were also very sizeable. The place is a little 'local' and not well furbished, but the food is good and the restaurant has undergone some renovations recently already. Floors are tiled now whereas they used to be just concrete. Recommended and...
Read moreI recently visited Siang Kee, and unfortunately, it was not a pleasant experience. From the start, I was greeted by a rather aggressive short-haired Chinese lady who seemed uninterested in providing good service. She introduced us to several dishes, but none of them were enjoyable.
One dish, the so-called 'Half Dragon Chicken,' was promised to be served with half a chicken, but instead, it came covered in prawn paste with barely any chicken present. The lady insisted that it was supposed to be like that, which was quite disappointing. Another dish, the minced meat tofu, had an additional and unappetizing surprise – a strand of hair in it.
In terms of hygiene, there were obvious concerns. The food tasted sour, and the vegetables were swimming in oil, making them look shiny but tasteless. Overall, the food quality was poor, and the service, especially the attitude of the staff, was the worst I've ever encountered. I won't...
