Decided to eat Nonya food for dinner last Sunday. Found Ta Ta along Pelangi and gave it a try.
We ordered the ayam bekeluah, hot plate tofu, kueh paitee with chendol as desserts.
The ayam was alright, but the bakeluah had only 2 pcs and contained not much substance within. Taste was average. The pai tee was very different from what I expected. The fillings were more of achar (appetitiser) than a typical turnip style. They were pineapple, carrot, more inclined towards a sour twang. The tofu was also very normal.
Service was alright, although there were hardly anyone who could speak Chinese or English.
Prices were not the cheapest, and didn't really reflect on the quality of food.
Parking was easy, lots of space.
Lastly, I believe Nonya food should have pork as a main ingredient in the gourmet. Ta Ta has no pork and therefore this is a big let...
Read moreTATA NYONYA by Tang Ren @ Pelangi Restaurant Johor, was there in January with a Malaysian friend. Went over yesterday by bus at noon with my wife from Queen Street, Singapore, Took a Grab at CIQ to the Restaurant for RM 15. It was crowded on a Tuesday afternoon and getting popular. This round we ordered some light dishes, Traditional rojak, Nyonya acar pai tee, Sambal eggplant and curry chicken dry meesiam combo. All dishes were good and tasty. Except that the Nyonya rojak needs to be improved because they added too much youtiao. Since we didn't order seafood this time, the total cost was RM57 (including tea and tax $17 plus Sing Dollars) In Singapore my favourite Nyonya Restaurant is National Kitchen by Violet Onn, one of the best and a good place to bring friends from overseas to visit this Restaurant with the best views outside looking at the...

Each dish delivered on flavour, and portion sizes were generous enough to satisfy a family. However, a word of advice: while the flavours were bold and satisfying, the kitchen does lean a little heavy on the salt.
The true highlight of the evening was the Cendol we ended the meal with—sweet, refreshing, and the perfect note to close a hearty dinner. A great spot for those craving authentic Nyonya cuisine, with just a little room for refinement...
