Thai Express — Restaurant in Johor

A pleasant find in Komtar CC! Highly recommended!

As Thai Express was a pretty common name in Singapore, this place is almost always empty whenever I passed by while visiting JB. People usually would rather queue for hawker fare dishes at restaurant prices such as oriental, tea garden or Hock Kee whenever they visit JB.

However I would strongly recommend you to try the following dishes if you happen to pass by here. Just try once at least!

1. Soft shell crab with Tanghoon - spot on! Super flavourful tanghoon soaked in their secret sauce and black pepper with pinch of garlic and spring onion. You have to try to believe it!

2. Their CNN award winning curry! Rich, thick and flavourful would be how I would describe this! Generous chicken thigh and drum with the right amount of spices in their gravy!

3. Seabass with their special Thai sauce filled with garlic, chilli padi, lime, parsley and probably fish sauce. Don’t be deceived by the lackluster colour of the soup. Once you tasted it, I am sure you will fall for it immediately!

Best of all, some of the dishes cost less than 50% compared to Singapore! Another gem...

Best Thai express I've had! Having tried Thai Express all over Singapore (Dhoby, Citihall, Novena, etc) and Midvalley, etc I have to say... the taste varies, much dependent on the chef Went into this one at Komtar, greeted by the friendly captain and service was fast and efficient. I wasn't expecting much, it was highly underrated, not crowded. When the food came, my friend softshell crab was flavorful, huge (around 2 1/2 times bigger than SG), and full of curry taste, it was delicious! My green curry was delightfully thick, creamy, smooth and it was the best curry I've had in a long time!! Though I originally ordered red curry, but no qualms having the green one (wrong order), anyway. Kudos to the chef! food 1 star because of the *seafood phad thai- too wet even have some sauce come with it + seafood not fresh got a weird taste & funny texture for the prawn and sotong. don't taste like phad thai at all 😅 we never finish it *fish cake too dry *tom yum soup spiciness much lesser then the Mid Valley outlet *red curry the chicken tough. Over all maybe the turn over at this outlet I think very slow which make the food different from the one we try last week at mid valley. service & atmosphere 2 stars because I'm thinking maybe the Mall was quiet n less pple visit. so when no customers ... the staff seem to 😕 feel monotone, so make the atmosphere feel sad. when we arrive, there is not a single table occupied, but we just give it a try for this outlet as we like the food at Mid Valley JB. I hope more shoppers will make this mall more...
