if you're staying here, please note that although it looks close to JB sentral on the map, it's not walking distance with luggage. you'll get sweaty and frustrated walking over because there aren't proper sidewalks you're sorta walking in the street (jay-walking half the time) to get to the hotel, and it takes about 15 minutes and isn't covered. in saying that i saw that there is a hotel shuttle, so i highly suggest using that. i didn't notice this until i left and this did not affect the score given to the hotel in my rating.
i've stayed at capri hotel in KL and that is a FAR SUPERIOR product to this one, and that played into my 3 star score. there are about 3 factors playing into this: a) the pool bathroom had proper nice lockers in KL, here they were ghetto. they had a proper sauna in KL, here they had a steamroom that I left warming up for 20 minutes and it was still embarassingly weak. b) the gym in KL had all new technogym equipment and was cutting edge and stylish, the gym in JB wasn't bad but was 3.5 star hotel standard with a carpet flooring, and just felt a bit tired. c) the pool area wasn't clean or vibrant and had a run down vibe whereas the pool at the KL branch felt like a 4-5 star hotel, and if i remember correctly some cool music programming.
I didn't try the hotel breakfast or any food so can't comment on that.
The saving grace: My room was 5 stars. Cleanliness, spacing, and had a very hot shower with proper water pressure, with everything functioning perfectly. My girlfriend and I stayed in both nights ordering grabfood and it was a nice perk that there were utensils in the room b/c grab forgot to include them with our order. Beddings and everything else were good. No airplay on the TV but this is being nitpicky. We were very happy with the room.
Bottom Line: We booked our room for about RM400/night bc we thought it was walking distance from City Square and JB Sentral (coming from Singapore) and would be at the same standard as Capri KL. The room was, but the rest of the experience was not. The other hotels we were looking at in the area which were walking distance / connected to JB Sentral (Amari, Doubletree & Holiday Inn) were charging about RM500+ so in the end we thought we had a super deal but you're just getting a bit of a discount for the inconvenience of the disconnect. I might stay at this location again but for a brand like Capri which I feel is programmed to capture the lifestyle oriented Gen-Z demographic, this branch's attention to detail is lacking, especially the disappointing experience at the pool and wellness facilities. Please visit the KL branch...
Read moreThis is my first time staying at Capri by Fraser and I would say in summary that this is probably one of my top two hotels in JB, with many others that I have visited. Both me and my partner shared the same sentiments on this. Do note that I stayed for two nights on a weekday which was when the hotel wasn’t very busy. From the check-in process to check-out, the staff were extremely courteous and would greet you with a smile everytime you leave and return from the hotel, something that I have never seen any other hotel do. The level of professionalism and standards were top notch. The room itself was pretty impressive. The room was bright and clean, and I’m glad I got a room that didn’t face SG as we wanted a getaway away from SG😂. The room which we booked (the Studio Deluxe King) was spacious and came with many amenities, including a microwave and cutlery which was awesome. Bath robes were also provided including many other amenities. Bed was comfortable and the toilet water pressure was also good. It felt like home from the vibes to the smell. Two improvements I would recommend is to provide a comb and shaving kit in the room as I had to call to request these, but the comb wasn’t provided. The TV in the room isn’t a smart TV which I wished it was to watch Netflix and YouTube, but this is probably something that cannot be changed as it’s an industry standard. But it would be a big plus. The aircon in the room was perfect for me. The temperature was true to temperature and it could be very very cold to just nice to warm, exactly how I wanted it. (2308) For the breakfast, I would give it a 7/10. Although it isn’t the best, the breakfast was really nice with the food that they have and most items were hot and fresh. I skipped breakfast in the first day and actually regretted doing so after having breakfast on the second day😂. Location wise, it didn’t bother us as we took grab in and out of the hotel. There is also a 24 hours convenience store right beside the hotel. We were not affected by any jams as we stayed on a weekday. Overall, this hotel was excellent and value for money. I am planning to come back at the end of the month to try out their most expensive room and to be amazed again. I would definitely recommend this hotel over other hotels within the same area for its staff service, hospitality, room amenities and how welcome we felt. Do take note that this hotel collects a deposit though of rm100 which isn’t something we are used too along the hotels we have stayed at such as St. Giles, KSL, Amari and Holiday Inn to name a few. Thank you for making us feel...
Read moreAm a member and have frequented the hotel on several occasions.
During our first trip the swimming pool was filled with weird white floating particles.
Room had a random back of the tarik at the window. We did not complain as we usually are the kind to just "let things slide".
Location seems good as it's really close to CIQ - but technically no "safe" route to walk to the malls - you have to do a pretty risky jaywalk.
What led to this review was our most recent trip in June and how unhelpful and unfriendly the staff were.
We had booked for 27-28 but requested a change to 26-27. Our mistake was not realising that they had replied and approved the date change. No contact number was available for this matter. So only email was the option.
Since we did not see the email we assumed it could not be changed (due to our booking policy also) and we went on our original date 27-28.
We arrived and showed our booking. They immediately said our booking was cancelled and "no show".
At that time, we were still unaware of the hotels reply via email - which we acknowledge as our fault.
However, The staff (I think one was like a female manager) did not even understand what happened. She did not even know if her side had replied and simple repeated that it's "no show"
Obviously we were frustrated as we thought there was no email reply. After like 15-20 minutes of re-explaining the situation then she contacted their online help desk and managed to show us the reply email.
We immediately acknowledged that it was our lapse for not seeing the reply. However, what I'm most disappointed in is that. She saw us there, all carrying our big bags and ready for check in, and did not even offer to assist on booking a new room / offer something to show effort in wanting to help customers.
She just stare at us. Said "it's cancelled due to no show" and made no efforts to assist on easing our situation. She seemed very cocky and yes, we know Singaporeans aren't very much liked over there.
I had wanted to just rebook another room (saw online many rooms available) but got turned off by the horrible experience. We went for lunch and booked Suasana suites instead. Am really glad we did because its way more worth the money!
To Capri: Please don't give me your copy paste reply. I am not interested. Take note that I wasn't expecting any freebies. But that staff should have at least made the effort to assist us / be kinder in that situation. Basic service industry.
Will never book there again. I don't complain about rooms etc. but...
