This is my second visit to Souper Tang, recommended by my Singaprean buddy. Last visit I was at Southkey branch. I was very impressed by this famous imperial soup place and fantastic dishes with a distinctive Souper Tang style that makes you want to come and quench your curiosity how other soups and dishes may taste! I brought my Dad and colleague to try Souper Tang at City Square outlet, before we head back to Singapore. We mark Souper Tang as a must visit dinner venue to complete our JB getaway. We ordered the Seafood Soup and the Yellow Wine Ginger Chicken as you just can't miss the fragrance in the air as we walked to our indoor table near the balcony. The very delicious side dishes are a hit at RM9-11. Even the side dishes live up to imperial class as I won't miss ordering side dishes to try every time I am at Souper Tang! My favorite is the thinly sliced sticks of Japanese cucumber with well-minced crispy fish bits and black and white sesame seeds. It has an interesting taste like that of tasty dried shrimps without chili and salt. We simply love this thoughtfully done side dish. We requested for least salt (or even no salt if possible) to try the ingredients at its original taste. We are certainly not disappointed. We will be back to try the chef's recommendation - black chicken with black garlic and american ginseng and more dishes on our next visit to JB for sure. Thanks for the lovely gesture of offering us beancurd dessert. We are so satisfied with the main dishes and soups we are too full so please pardon us for refusing but dearly appreciate the hospitality of the warm-hearted staff. Souper Tang City Square outlet has a great Kampong spirit in its typically contemporary classy and posh decor. It is such a pleasure dining here. Your chef's fine culinary skills have made us a fan!

Came here for a light dinner with my friend before heading out for the night. The first impressions were good. The restaurant has a grand Chinese atmosphere filled with families and friends enjoying what seemed to be delicious Chinese herbal soups. The staff were friendly and efficiently helped us with our order. 💧 Water is chargeable at 1 RM ---- Here’s what we had: 🍲 Imperial Seafood Thick Soup (1 pax) If you’re a fan of the traditional Chinese wedding shark fin soup, this is a fantastic alternative. Made with seafood and rich in collagen, it’s thick, flavourful, and surprisingly affordable at 32 Ringgit for a single serving in comparison to a real Sharkfin Soup. A dash of vinegar and pepper elevated the taste. I rate: 5/5 🌟 🐔 Paper Wrapped Herbal Chicken with Rice I thoroughly enjoyed the paper-wrapped herbal chicken. The meat was incredibly tender and fell off the bone effortlessly. The rich, flavourful sauce was a result of the chicken leg's essence and the addition of herbs like red dates, Angelica hervs, and Goji berries. It was a truly satisfying and energising meal. I savoured every drop of the sauce. 👌 I rate: 5/5 🌟 ---- For this quality and price ratio, we’d definitely return to treat ourselves or celebrate with family and friends. While the wait for our food was a bit long, as expected for dishes that require more preparation, our choices were excellent. The waiter was helpful and informed us of the approximate wait time when we mentioned our preference for a quicker meal.

I dine there in Dec, on a weekday. The mall was super crowded because of school holidays and of course a lot of diners from travellers and tourists. We went in just before 6pm. To start off, we were pretty upset when almost 40% of the items were out even due the dinner service for the evening had only start to begin. After we came in, and maybe another couple of customers more, the queue started to build up and there were still lots of empty tables. Then the manager at the cashier started to tell customers in queue, in a slightly loud voice (so that everyone in queue can hear) that if they were prepared to dine in, please expect a wait since there was manpower shortage. I think that is reasonable to do but i think it become unpleasant from me to continue and hear him tell the customers that there were 2 people in the kitchen and 1 service staff servicing the customers. I think as far as customer service is concerned, this was too much details and become of a ranting. Of course, i understand the manager's frustration because he was faced with this situation. He was equally helpless. I was probably more upset with how the Management run the restaurant at this location knowing that it is a prime mall and traffic is high. It only goes to show the poor planning by the management which is no fault of the staff. Staff shouldn't be felt they were alone to handle all these. The other part was that they have a dedicated staff wearing red shirt focusing 100% on servicing the retail front. That staff acted like she was 100% on retail and restaurant matters were none of her concerns. I understand if she was on commission and doing extra work for the restaurant side won't do her any good but it did not reflect well on restaurant customers like me, waving my hand silly at her and getting an unfriendly response at all. She was also oblivion to the long queue that formed right in front of retail and continued to serve her customers. In an in between moment of rest where retail customers left after purchase, I am surprised when she boosted to the manager on how much sales she secured within 30 mins and sounded self-impressed. All these are good but i think it shouldn't be done in front of eating customers like us when I had to endure looking at the helpless long queue of people outside, staring at empty tables, me not ordering the food i want and lastly watching a boastful conversation from someone who ignored me when i asked for service. I always love Souper Tang food but i will never ever visit this branch again.

Love love love love love the "French beans with Pu Er Leaves". Such a unique dish and it tastes good; the fresh beans are crisp with a tinge of sweetness from the tea leaves. Would definitely go back for this dish again. The served appetiser (you do need to pay for them) is the beans and guava. We rejected the beans because we don't take them but I enjoyed the guava though the ones in Thailand are definitely better. The vegetable dishes were generally yummy. We ordered the Brinjal and the Fried Yam, both of which tasted good. The noodle soup is also delicious because the soup is rich and the noodle's texture is just right. Same goes for our lotus peanut pork rib soup which also tastes yummy, though I'm pretty sure my mum, who's a very good cook, can also do the same. The only dish that we didn't enjoy is the drunken chicken - we didn't enjoy the flavour of the seasoning/marination as we find the taste of the wine overpowering. Oh yes, the sour plum drink wasn't to my liking as well but the rest of my companions enjoyed it. Should try the honey green tea the next time round. Though I've read reviews of the bad service, we personally enjoyed quite good service there. The lady who introduced the dishes to four of us advised us about the right quantity of food for the four of us, which really did turn out to be very accurate. Dishes were served promptly and the staff is sufficiently attentive. Would definitely be back again.

1st visit to this outlet after 2 years plus. To be honest the food execution of Souper Tang is frankly not bad. This time rd The fried garlic w ginger fish slices, claypot saucy pork slice w omelette and the silky beancurd ordered all tasted gd! It should been 4 stars but minus 1 star due to extreme poor service experienced. Like many other reviews mentioned , the service at this outlet leaves really little to desire. Before entering staff will rather unkindly highlight that at least a 30min wait if enter and order their food to eat. If we are OK then allowed to step in. We noted as we got seated that tables are not even fully occupied. And Within 10minutes food are served already, so did a few tables that came after us so it really seemed staff just did not want people to patronise?Throughout the meal whenever we needed like utensils etc it was hard to catch their attention and the few staff were simply idling not busy. We had been to the Paradigm mall jb outlet just few days ago and service was extremely friendly and prompt with comparison to the City square outlet. If this had been our 1st visit we would most likely not come again due to the poor service but the foodfare was the saviour. We will likely eat at Souper Tang again but not this outlet with poor service attitude. Hope the management can improve this outlet staff service.

Came here for dinner, before entering, we were told by a guy that seem like the team lead that food will need to wait 30mins but there were very few customers. Anyway, we sat down to look at the extensive menu from soups to stirfry and order soups and truffle egg omelette. The soups were ok standard, normal like from any soup stall. However, the egg omelette does not have any taste or smell of truffle so we asked the team lead. To our dismay, his reply was crude and blamed us for not requesting for extra truffle during order. However, we explained that this egg does not has any taste or smell Of truffle at all, he denies it and left. We also observed he has equally bad service attitude towards the other customers in the restaurant too. The ambience is pleasant but the male team lead needs retraining. Feeling unfairly treated, we once again told the team lead about the problem with the egg as truffle egg is 2x more expensive than normal omelette, the team lead did not say a word deducted the item from bill. However, the whole encounter left a bad impression of the restaurant, team lead displayed poor service and I would not recommend anyone to come here.
