Wafu Mount Austin — Restaurant in Johor

This was a surprising find on 29/6/2024. I can understand why it's not really on the radar because of the portioning of food and the low price to cater to the budgets of the students of the 2 schools nearby. Plus it's not really located in an obvious area in Austin.

I had the bulgogi rice bowl for lunch. The meat was marinated well. On a whim, I went back to the shop to pack for my kid for dinner and I decided to add an extra portion of meat. They do both japanese and Korean meats so this time I ordered the yaki buta don rice and topped it up with an extra portion of spicy Korean pork. They have both white n brown rice so I chose the brown rice. By the time I got home both the japanese and Korean flavours infused into the rice and the effect was mind-blowing. The shop added bonito flakes and seaweed for the japanese meats and kimchi for the Korean meats (kimchi was in a separate container). Now this is fusion done right except that it's done through my experimental request and it's not on the menu. So boss of the shop, if you're reading this, pls expand your menu to include double portion pork bowl so that this order doesn't need to be treated as a special order (the guys have to go back to the kitchen to ask how to take this order since technically it's not on the menu or POS machine). For the rest reading this, just remember to custom order the double portion pork bowl the next time you come here if it's still not on the menu and pick 2 different flavours for the pork. Came with 2 other friends. I ordered kimchi soup with rice, and it was OK. But I'm a tad disappointed as the soup wasn't sour or tangy enough for kimchi ... But this is just my own preference. My friends on the other hand, ordered soup with noodles. Apparently the noodles were cooked too long and were soggy ... But there are quite a number of people having dinner here. Probably it's not a good day for the chef. I'll come back again to see if the food is better in...
