Ming Ming Imperial Roast Duck (Mount Austin) left me quite disappointed during my recent visit. I ordered a combination of Roasted Pork Belly and Roast Duck, expecting a flavorful and satisfying meal, but unfortunately, it fell short on multiple fronts. The Roast Duck, which should have been the highlight, was extremely dry and lacked any notable flavor. It was difficult to enjoy, and the meat didn’t have the tenderness or juiciness you’d hope for in a dish that claims to be a specialty. The Roasted Pork Belly fared slightly better with its crispy texture, but it still missed the mark. It lacked the depth and rich flavors one would expect from a well-executed dish. To make matters worse, the condiments that are usually essential to enhancing these dishes were completely absent. This oversight made the meal feel incomplete and even less enjoyable. The plain noodles I ordered on the side were also a letdown—overcooked to the point of being mushy, which ruined the texture and made them unappetizing. The only saving grace of the meal was the Chrysanthemum Ginseng drink. It was well-balanced, refreshing, and soothing, providing a much-needed reprieve from an otherwise lackluster dining experience. Overall, the experience at Ming Ming Imperial Roast Duck was underwhelming. While the drink was excellent, the food, which should have been the main attraction, failed to deliver in terms of flavor, texture, and overall quality. It’s not a place I would...
Read moreFollowing a lengthy drive around Taman Austin, my friend and I, famished from our journey, decided to stop for lunch. A quick Google search led us to Meng Meng Roasted Duck, a restaurant with several branches throughout Johor Bahru and even in Singapore.
The food was adequate, though nothing particularly remarkable. My friend opted for a roasted duck platter; unfortunately, the duck itself proved rather tough and dry. We also ordered honey roasted pork noodles and a dumpling soup. The noodles were disappointingly soggy, clearly not properly drained, while the dumplings in my friend's soup were on the small side, containing more carrot than meat.
Overall, even for someone accustomed to Singaporean prices, I found Meng Meng Roasted Duck to be somewhat expensive. The quality of the food didn't quite justify the cost, particularly given the issues with the duck's texture and the wet noodles. While the location was convenient following our drive, I wouldn't rush back for a second visit unless significant improvements were made to the food preparation and ingredients quality. Perhaps other establishments offer a better dining experience, but based on our visit to this restaurant, I would suggest exploring alternative lunch options in...
