小美锅 Xiao Mei Guo — Restaurant in Johor

Dinner dated 17 April 2025. Golden fish maw soup, acceptable taste but had a coarse like sensation with every mouthful of soup. Maybe my personal food preference issue. The iberico pork collar tasted exactly as what it was. The taste was similar to those I purchased from frozen food section. The 4 x shrimp paste platter looked appealing, but taste wise didn't wow me. The plate of vegetables, black fungus, processed food and etc, all tasted normal as what they should be, except the fishball. It was very fishy, don't know left in room temperature for how long already. WORD OF CAUTION, if you are bringing kids to eat at this place, be wary and not let them near to the hotpot. The hotpot will kept cooking at a constant temperature without means to lowering the heat. When I scooped the soup with the only available black spoon, it was very hot. My hand was exposed to the smoke only and it felt really hot. Imagine coming into contact with the hotpot or that metal sheet (probably for covering up the fire). I highly suggest the owner of this eatery to procure long ladle for scooping whatever within the hotpot. Gave 3 stars only for the freshly squeeze lemon tea with less sugar. I could hear the pounding of lemon from where I was sitted. Good job with the lemon tea. Service crews were monotonous, but didn't affected my eating session. One of the service crews did top up my soup after spotting it less than half full. Hence deserved 5 stars for service. 5 stars for comfy air-conditioned eating environment. What i like about XMG is they have free flow of, not just the fruits which consist of red dragon fruits, honeydew, watermelons BUT also, they serves free flow of black fungus aka hei muér chinese toss salads and the taste is really good! On top of that, I also like their variety choices of dipping sauces, it really nicely complements the foods. Must say, there's one male waiter (foreign worker) which provides really good service due to his promptness in serving the tables and his attentiveness to customer needs. Never once we raise hand asking for soup re-fills but voluntarily he will noticed our pot soup reducing and needs refilling. In fact, I also noticed other waitress walk pass by will peek at our table to see anything that we might need from them.

To the owner of XMG, I hope you can maintain this good service standard from the workers in order to have returning customers.

The soup base is tasty. Personally really like the Golden Fish Maw soup which needs to top-up additional RM2 but really worth it. It is flavorful but not overly brine taste. Delicate soft and creamy taste on the 1st sip prior throwing in all the stuff...

This place is flexible. It doesn't enforce to order 1 pot soup for each person. So 2 people can share 1 pot of soup.

The menu is simple and easy to order. Set value is good. The range of sauce is limited, BUT it is mostly the usual sauce that most people eat. So there is no wastage of sauces that some people don't take.

In JB, there is no limited time of eating, so you can slowly chew and eat the food
