Saw this place on social media and wanted to come and give it a try. I thought this place is a Teahouse serving tea and light snacks and dessert I didn't expect their menu to be so extensive. Visited on a weekend afternoon for lunch. There were quite a bit of people but it wasn't full and I got to choose where I wanted to sit. Took a while looking through the menu before deciding what to order because was kinda spoilt for choice. Saw something interesting so ended up ordering a drink, main and a dessert. First the drink came within 5 minutes. It was the roasted oolong milk tea and the top looked interesting with the flower petals and seemed like top half of the drink was charcoal flavoured as it was greyish. Then came the main which was also served rather quickly, the crab roe over rice. Looked very interesting and can't wait to try it. The crab roe was pretty good, could taste a lot of eggs and crab meat and they seemed pretty generous with the crab meat. They also gave quite a big portion of rice which I couldn't finish. I was wondering if the sauce was too little or the rice too much. Last but not the least came the dessert. I ordered the osmanthus red dates beancurd and it was pretty good. Loved the taste and all the ingredients complemented well together. Loved the osmanthus taste and surprised the lotus seeds tasted so good. There was also a big rabbit made of jelly which tasted pretty good and not too sweet too. Was a pretty enjoyable meal here and the prices were pretty reasonable. Since there's so much to choose from it's better to come in a group to order more and share. Went to the cashier to make payment and there they had such a big chiller displaying the cakes and oh they look so good! Will come back again and give it a try next time and its a nice place to...
Read moreMy husband discovered Xuan Cafe and, after seeing some positive reviews, decided to take me there to try it out. You’ll easily spot the place by its striking big red door. Stepping inside, the cafe offers a charming ancient Chinese theme, perfect for photos and very Instagram-worthy.
We ordered their highly recommended tiramisu, and it did not disappoint. The layers were beautifully balanced, with a pleasant hint of alcohol that gave it a luxurious fragrance. The texture was velvety and smooth, making every bite delightful. However, the price was on the higher side, which might make it more of a treat than a regular indulgence.
We also tried the rocher chocolate cake, but unfortunately, this was a letdown. The top layer of cream was extremely dry and cracked instantly as we took the first bite, leaving us wondering how long it had been sitting in the fridge. The overall taste was underwhelming, lacking the richness we expected.
For drinks, we ordered the oolong milk tea and jasmine green milk tea. Both were visually stunning, garnished with delicate flower petals that made them almost too pretty to drink. The flavors were subtle yet satisfying, perfect accompaniments to the desserts.
Since we had already eaten, we didn’t try any of their main courses. We initially planned to stay longer, relax, and enjoy the cozy ambiance, but the air-conditioning was uncomfortably cold. When we asked the staff, they said it was set to 20°C and couldn’t be adjusted. Given that only three tables, including ours, were occupied at the time, the chill felt unnecessary and a bit unpleasant.
Overall, it was a nice place to try once for the experience, but we’re unlikely to return for a...
Read moreCame on a Monday and was told that there was only desserts and drink available but did not leave as I didn’t wanted to waste the trip down. Ordered an oolong milk tea which was good and a mango dessert but tasted mid. Asked why there isn’t any main and was told that the chef was injured yesterday and today was given a day off to rest. (Or smth like that)
A week has passed and came back today (a Monday) and was told the same thing again, no mains only deserts and drinks. Left this time and went to check their IG, and there wasn’t any updates. Have decided to give up and not going to return to try their mains.
Updated: Visited again on a Monday and everything was available. Came back because I really wanna try their food and heard positive feedbacks from friends and I was not disappointed.
Ordered the crab roe with rice which was the only dish that I felt was ‘order once is enough’ while the sandwich with koushui ji was delicious, perfected seasoned paired with fresh veggies. The Laoganma noodles were also nicely seasoned though the smoked duck portion could be more generous. Mushroom soup was okay on its own but was better paired with the hand torn pancakes. Ordered oolong milk tea again but hot which I felt tasted slightly lackluster from the iced version. Cakes and tiramisu is a no just because whipped topping was used instead of fresh cream.(I’m a pastry chef so I can taste it) All in all I’ll be back to try...
