Visited this place on a weekday lunchtime. I wanted to visit a place which I used to frequent often turned out when I stopped outside this shop I found out it has been replaced! Didn't want to spend more time thinking what to eat so decided on this restaurant. It was pretty crowded but I managed to get a table immediately. Guess I was quick because subsequently there was a queue outside waiting for seats. Had a look at the physical menu it looks rather promising with a good variety of dishes. Made up my mind on what to order but when checking the online menu was disappointed quite a lot of items were unavailable. Settled for a noodle, tempura and a taro pancake. First came the tempura and it was just very average, nothing fantastic but the chilli powder was quite spicy. Then came the crispy chicken chop noodle. Noodle was very plain there wasn't much to talk about it, but the surprise was the fried chicken which I liked a lot. The meat was so juicy and tender and the skin was very crispy it was so perfectly fried. Here the spice and chilli powder added was more mild which made the chicken less spicy and more enjoyable. The portion of the chicken was rather generous too but there were bones so do eat with caution. Lastly came the taro pancake. Looks wise the portion did look a little pathetic with a mere 4 pieces. The taro was quite smooth and it wasn't very sweet, yet am surprised the pancake was a little on the salty side that I felt the flavours didn't really complement well. Still, overall the meal was filling and the bill was quite okay for a restaurant inside a high end mall. Good for a try but if talking about Taiwanese food there are better...
Read moreOverall, the food is decent, but the taste didn't quite match the presentation and packaging. Ironically, for a restaurant selling on memories, the food lacked warmth. Service was fast but most of it was lukewarm, which may have affected the taste. Price-wise, it's on the higher end. Dishes I had:
Japanese pork chop chew-chew noodles - one good thing is that I had options for the amount of noodles I wanted. Initially, I was confused about the difference between Japanese and Taiwanese pork chop. Japanese pork chop is deep-fried, while Taiwanese pork chop is pan-fried. The noodles, soup, EGG and pickles were quite ordinary (a bit of a let-down), but I did like the braised meats. The pork chop is moist too.
Taiwanese sausage with garlic slices - they served the sausage within a minute of ordering. I know it's a strange comment, but the amount of garlic doesnt match the sausages. The taste is okay but it wouldn't be on my recommendation list.
Honey-scented black tea - would skip this...
Read moreThis was first time probably also the last time i would consider revisit due to my poor experience. I had placed order via the QR link around 11.45am. Waited for food almost 30mins started loosing patient as it was taking too long especially the other table that arrived later than me were getting their food served. I got a waitress to check my order with kitchen and kept waiting for response for another 10mins. I kinda regret and frustrated after I saw a 5-member family that arrived in restaurant (after I placed order) that had already finished their meal and paid bill, while I was still waiting for my little plate of noodles. Then I called another waitress and told her to cancel my order if kitchen was not yet prepared the food, shortly my food finally arrived with apologies.
The noodles is nice but I have other good choices to have similar food. Something wrong with their serving flow. I couldn't recall the last unpleasant dine-in experience so I must write...
