This is one of the worst dining experience we had for a long time. I would have given -10 stars if it was an option.
We ordered our food at 7.07pm (printed on the order sheet) after the staff told us that the online ordering system was down and she would put our orders in manually. My drink arrived in about 10mins but my wife's drink didn't arrive. We waited patiently till 30mins after ordering to ask the staff for the remaining drink and status of the dishes we ordered. Then the 2 side dishes arrived before my wife's drink finally arrived after another 10mins.
We noticed another table of guests complaining that their fish had not arrived after 1 hour. Lo and behold, after 1 hour, the staff came by to tell us the flavour we ordered was not available and asked us to change to another flavour. The lady service manager mentioned that they would provide a 20% discount for our inconvenience. We waited for another 10 mins for the fish to finally arrive (1 hour and 15 mins after ordering). And the rice still needed us to ask them again after the fish was served. We asked for the rice a total of 3 times before it was served.
We finished our food and the service manager came by to offer us a discount on a return visit to the restaurant which we declined as we were on holiday and not residents. She then offered free desserts that we declined as well because we would not be able to finish and wanted to leave the place.
When we went to pay, we noticed that there was no discount and asked the lady. She said she only offered free desserts. By then, we were so disgusted with the service that we paid and left.
All in all, DO NOT patronise this restaurant. The kitchen is in a mess and the service manager cannot even keep her word on service recovery. We initially wanted to try this cuisine as my wife had not had it before. Safe to say that after this experience, we will not visit this restaurant chain, both in Malaysia and...

To enjoy Tanyu Grilled Fish: Step 1: Choose your fish Step 2: Choose the flavour Step 3: Choose the side dish
Here’s what I tried:
🐟𝐆𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐅𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐡 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐏𝐞𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐫 - 𝐋𝐢𝐦𝐛𝐨 (𝐑𝐌𝟏𝟏𝟗.𝟗𝟎) (+) 𝐆𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐑𝐌𝟑𝟔.𝟗𝟎) Signature dish whereby the fish was super fresh, like it was so tender & soft - like how rare is this? I’m not one who is the best in spicy food but was manageable by cautiously using the sauce on your fish. But the sauce was the best, like super flavourful haha
🍜𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐪𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐍𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐧 (𝐑𝐌𝟐𝟐.𝟗𝟎) Absolute fav side dish, its a tad bit spicy with the chill oil but I have to say, it was so so appetizing. Like the mala taste was not too overpowerful & this light taste complimented the fish so so well
🍜𝐍𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐎𝐢𝐥 (𝐑𝐌𝟏𝟒.𝟗𝟎) This is for non-spicy food eaters, the noodles were very springy and the onion oil was flavourful
🐔𝐆𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐝 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐑𝐌𝟗.𝟗𝟎) Really kind to accommodate the request to swap the beef to chicken, so non-beef eaters don’t worry, there’s plenty of other options too!
🍆𝐆𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐄𝐠𝐠𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭 (𝐑𝐌𝟏𝟗.𝟗𝟎) I love eggplants, & the topping was so so flavourful, like heck yes
🍢𝐃𝐨𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐓𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐤𝐞 (𝐑𝐌𝟏𝟗.𝟗𝟎) Unique combination yet so so yummy. It was crispy on the outside but soft inside.
🍇 𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐞 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐤 (𝐑𝐌𝟏𝟒.𝟗𝟎) 🍊𝐓𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐇𝐚𝐰𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐤 (𝐑𝐌𝟏𝟒.𝟗𝟎) The drinks were really huge in side, like I loved the generous portion & it isn’t just your regular cordial mix. They had also incorporated the pulp of the fruits. Not sweet too.
🌟🌟🌟I would highly recommend dropping-by cos the grilled fish is honestly really good

Read moreI recently dined at TANYU in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur after making a booking for five people. Upon arrival, however, our table seemed set up for just four and was located uncomfortably close to the serving area. It felt quite cramped, especially as I noticed plenty of empty tables at the back of the restaurant. The waiter was initially reluctant to let us move, but eventually allowed it.
Moving on to the food, we ordered the grilled qingjiang fish with garlic flavour, which was rather average. The grilled limbo fish with sauerkraut was more disappointing, as it had a pronounced muddy or earthy taste, suggesting it was not fresh or had been poorly handled. Even the sour sauerkraut gravy could not mask that off-putting flavour. I mentioned it to the cashier when paying, but was told it was normal. Having eaten a fair amount of fish elsewhere, I am certain this was not normal at all.
We also tried the grilled lamb skewers, which were not tender, and the grilled chicken skewers, which turned out to be surprisingly succulent. The enoki mushrooms with minced garlic was passable. As for the double taste rice cake, the exterior was nicely crisp and the inside pleasantly gooey, but it seriously lacked enough brown sugar to make it truly enjoyable. Lastly, we shared the jumbo muscat grape drink, which unfortunately tasted incredibly diluted—more ice than actual juice.
I left feeling puzzled about TANYU’s high online ratings. After reading a comment suggesting patrons are rewarded with free dessert for giving high rating, I suspect those ratings may not be entirely genuine. Based on my own experience, I wouldn’t rely on them if you’re seeking a truly...
