Overall, my dining experience at this restaurant was disappointing due to poor service despite the delicious vegetarian food they offer. I visited for lunch and was impressed by the taste of their dishes, but the service left much to be desired. When I arrived around 11:30 am, all staff were busy preparing grab food packages, and I had to approach one of them to ask if they could provide a similar package with compartments for my food since I was going to eat later in the evening and didn't want my side dishes to get soggy in the rice compartment of the container they provided me with. The staff didn't seem to understand my request and instead gave me a plastic bag which I found frustrating and unhelpful. I had to pack my food myself without any guidance or assistance provided by the staff.
As I continued to pack my food, I noticed that none of the staff seemed to understand basic English or Malay, as I had to repeat multiple times. This lack of communication and understanding among the staff members was very unprofessional and left me feeling frustrated and disappointed with the overall service provided by the restaurant.
In conclusion, while the food at this restaurant is excellent, the service leaves much to be desired, and I would recommend that the restaurant invests in staff training to improve their communication and understanding of basic English and Malay to provide a better overall dining experience for...
Read moreMany years ago, this establishment started of as a small, humble, side-of-the-road stall. My dad would bring the family often, and we would enjoy the hot and yummy meals at a place with the most unique yet unforiegn ambience. Fun-fact : initially the place didn't have a name at all. The uncle who owned it was named Gandhi, a pleasant and warm man. People used to say "let's go to Gandhi's", upon which the name stuck.
The "inside" of the stall had a warm yellowish light, with pictures on the wall which I don't recall. The most divine of all the wall hangings was a large painting of a little girl sitting with a magnificent, regal, lion (might have been a boy and a girl, reading comfortably against the lion's mane). I used to stare at it incessantly, and it was my favorite thing about the place but somehow I always forgot it was there until I came back again. It was like meeting a friend unexpectedly.
My dad loved to chat thus we knew everyone's name. Ismail was the resident cook, a fair man with a quaint mustache. My sis and I loved the packed nasi lemaks, and even more the packed slices of banana cake.
These days, the place has a prime location at Brickfields with ample space. The food is still amazing. I miss the...
Read moreThe food here is delicious and reasonably priced, which used to be reason enough to visit regularly. A few years ago I placed and paid for an order of savoury snacks for a party, and sent reminders by phone the day before and morning of the party. Guess what, they forgot my order, and made me take something else (nyonya kuih) instead, which was mostly left uneaten as this is not what the guests wanted. I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and went on to dine here twice more. On both occasions the place was filthy and chaotic, tables were not cleaned, and orders took over 40 minutes to be delivered. Food was served on styrofoam plates and disposable tableware. Orders were mixed up when they finally arrived. Staff looked utterly miserable and overworked. Worse, they had a system requiring ordering and payment at the counter before you can find a seat and wait for your food, so you couldn’t even leave and go elsewhere if you wanted to. All this clearly indicates one major problem — lack of manpower. Pay your staff enough, Gandhi’s, and maybe you can hire and retain them long enough to ensure your restaurant’s standards don’t...
