Affordable lobster? Take my money!! With ever increasing price of seafood nowadays, it is almost impossible to find a decent place to eat without breaking (or bleeding) the wallet. We are talking about 3-digit figure everytime one type of seafood is involved, not only lobsters. So imagine my excitement when I got to know about this lobster laksa selling for less than RM50!
One catch though - it's located in the industrial area of Segambut and I knew that parking was going to be a problem especially during lunch hour. The lure of lobster proved too much to resist and I finally made it here.
◾It is located on the first floor - the ground floor is occupied by hawker style Kopitiam but under the same name. Upstairs area is air-conditioned and therefore dining affair is more comfortable. ◾As the name suggests, they only serve - yup, you guessed it - lobster and dim sum. ◾For dim sum, apart from the varieties that you'd find in regular dim sum shop.. expect lobster inspired dim sum such as lobster siew mai and lobster chee cheong fun. I skipped those but ordered the regular loh mai kai and steamed fish ball - passable but not the best I had. Since the daughter loved it, can't complain much ◾Highlight of the meal - lobster and seafood laksa! Costing at RM40 per bowl, it certainly has to meet certain expectations of mine. For the price, it came with half lobster, fresh prawns, squid, mussels, clams, taufu pok and bean sprouts. Initial impression - very oily as the layer of oil could be seen covering the top; no doubt on the freshness of the given seafood but that was it... The broth was overloaded with curry powder (too much I'd say) until it overpowered the sweetness of the lobster. Fine tune is needed to tweak the overall quality of this lobster laksa to shine.
Apart from the laksa, they do have lobster porridge which I reckon will be better to taste the natural sweetness of the crustacean.
I’d give full 5-stars if the laksa broth is not so...
Read moreThe food at this place is rather good, but it's challenging to find parking nearby. Unfortunately, there are many people smoking, which makes it unsuitable for families, especially those with kids. After smoking, customers simply throw the cigarette butts on the floor without any consideration.
The cleanliness is also subpar – even during less busy times, you can see dirty or used plates, bowls, and utensils left on the tables, and the tables themselves aren't wiped properly. We always have to move the dirty dishes to another empty table and clean the table on our own.
The gentleman running the Loh Mee and Pan Mee stall was seen smoking while preparing food, without wearing a mask or gloves. Additionally, the owner in charge of drinks comes across as quite arrogant. On one occasion, we witnessed the owner scolding a customer simply because he requested an extra cup for the Chinese...
Read moreHad tried the mee hoon kuih, prawn mee and CKT.
I would say the mee hoon kuih is one of my top 3 personal favourite mee hoon kuih in Klang Valley (one in Berkeley, Klang and another one at Maluri, Cheras). There was generous amount of ingredients and the soup was flavourful with generous amount of anchovies.
The prawn mee was pretty decent and doesn't disappoint me as well. Soup was well balanced in flavor and would consider one of the better ones in Klang Valley.
As for CKT, it was good enough. I would come back for prawn mee and mee hoon kuih definitely.
This restaurant definitely deserves my personal nomination for Top 10 Most Recommended Restaurant...
