EDIT July 2024:
Disappointed that with their price increases, LooLoo loses its appealing casualness and starts to enter fine dining. The food however, is simply not refined or interesting enough to be priced at that level. 3 apps, 1 main and a glass of wine for RM204 just doesn’t work for this quality of food.
The Refreshing Somen is too one-note sweet/sour, the lamb bites are basically party hors d’oeuvres, and while the arancini are tasty, there’s just too much mayo/cream. The risotto is pleasant, but missing some punch, strange given how much seafood and cheese/butter there is. Also, every dish seemed to have the same white and brown sauces squeezed on!
Overall, I’m not surprised it was empty on a Friday night, and I’m sad to say I probably won’t be back.
Previous Review from 2022: Casual fine dining that comes closer to good casual dining, but at their reasonable prices and with a fun, affordable wine list, Loo Loo is worth a visit (especially in a group). Stick to the mains and make sure to try the Triple Honey dessert, which is PHENOMENAL
LooLoo clearly aspires to be one notch above casual western-fusion dining, with an eclectic menu and plenty of small dishes, but out of the 6 or so things we tried, only the steak (the most expensive item at 78$) was superlative. The others were fine and more than edible, but nothing I'd recommend people go there to try.
In general, the flavors used are fine, but lack some refinement and complication. For example, the cold somen (the dish is called "Refreshing") was overpoweringly sesame-oil'ed, hiding the flavor of the tobiko and shrimp. The Caesar salad was interesting - mashed egg and pulled chicken in lettuce leaves, but again, the flavors and texture were a bit rough. None of the appetizers we tried are recommendable I'm afraid to say (we also tried the scallop gratin and duck bao)
On the other hand, the excellent steak is a thin slice of Australian striploin sous-vide'd and I assume torched on the outside - the softness is something to behold, and it had some real meatiness (perhaps dry-aged?).
The other main we tried; the duck leg, was JUST a bit dry for me, but the flavors were good (loved the roasted beetroot!), and with the Pinot Noir we had, delicious.
The wine list is worth mentioning too, because it's sizable (something like 8 reds and 6 whites?) and affordable (avg price about 150/bottle but ranges from 100rm to over 200), and pretty good (very appealing Australian, NZ, French and Italian bottles). They charge corkage at 50$, so I recommend you just go with their bottles.
Anyway, I think it's best for group celebrations because it's quite affordable, but still provides the appropriate atmosphere for celebrations - good service, spacious, multi-course, alcohol available etc. For couples or solo dining though, there are...
Read moreWe recently moved to this neighbourhood and a friend recommended this place to me. Place / atmosphere: very comfortable, simple but classy. You can see their attention to detail. Every table has a small table lamp for those who needs it. I made reservations a day before for 2 pax. I was pleasantly surprised to see a placecard with my name & 2 matchstick figure. Creative Service : staff was friendly, helpful and attentive. Food : The important part. Is it worth it? Let's just say i will be a repeat customer. Their fusion food are very interesting. We ordered 3 starters, 1 main & 2 desserts. The crispppy potatoes with truffle mayo dip were awesome. Could not discern the truffle in the dip though Romesco veloute that was served with bruschetta cracker was delicious. You can taste the grilled tomatoes and peppers adding some smokiness to the soup. Cold somen. Love the chewiness of the somen but find the dressing a bit too tart for my liking. Personally i feel it would taste a lot better with soba dip with a hint of citrus. The star : Beef AUS full blood M9 oyster blade cooked medium well. The soft & aromatic flavour of the beef makes every bite so blissful. Their mash potatoes were creamy & buttery Desserts : sago gula melaka - the gula melaka was very aromatic. The salted gula melaka gelato balances the whole thing quite well Honey 3 ways was interesting. They did not skimp on the honey at all. When we were settling the bill, we were told that this dessert complimentary for us. This is such pleasant and unforgetable dinning experience for us Basically this place serve "atas" food with "atas" presentation and service WITHOUT the "atas" price. Kudos to the chef for his wonderful creations. As i am writing this review, i am already thinking what i'm going to order next round SET LUNCH REVIEW: Went there for a quick lunch recently therefore forgot to take pictures. Ordered the grilled fish with ginger crisps and chicken burger as mains. The set comes with cauliflower soup / salad +1 main + coffee. The cauliflower soup was delicious. Smooth and creamy. My friend keep saying "this is not enough" with every spoonful. Love the grilled fish with ginger crisps. Came with crispy potatoes. Love the different textures with every mouthful. Fish was fresh too. My friend throughly enjoyed the burger. The comment was the bun was so fluffy. Every mouthful was a bliss. Will be back to try the set lunch other mains. The cauliflower...
Read morewe had a truffle infused risotto made into a little sphere. it was absolutely wonderful and bursting with flavour. it was followed by their own take of a one-bite caesar salad. i would say it was an interesting choice to change bacon into fried baby shrimp.
we had some fresh oysters with a yuzu ball of what seemed to be jelly. i do wish that the flavour of the yuzu lasted a bit longer as it was really delicious. the presentation was 10/10 though
steak was cooked very evenly. no greying of the meat. the white puddle was actually a VERY smoothed mashed potato.
the ginger pasta was very interesting too - not exactly my taste but my family loved it.
squid ink risotto was cooked well too. the little dots on top of the cracker were absolutely delicious. it had some pieces of fried seafood (probably fish?) underneath the cracker
we also had a spicy halibut fish which was cooked REALLY well. the flesh was firm but tender at the same time.
what really impressed me the most was the sous vide chicken breast meat with mushroom risotto. it is the JUICIEST breast meat i've EVER eaten in the WORLD. simply put, perfection.
we had a soufflé pancake with ice cream and a tea-infused(?) whipped cream. delicious, not too sweet.
the waiters were attentive; the chef was friendly and explained the dishes to us. it was a bit noisy for my personal liking, but the restaurant was PACKED when i was there.
parking might be a bit of an issue depending on your luck, but you could always opt to park at the hotel carpark. overall, a wonderful dining experience and will be...
