We went here for lunch during a week day and it was packed. We got seated and we started talking a bit and there was nobody who came to take our order. It was busy so I kinda understand. And so we called for the waiter. And they said “sekejap ya” and walked away. Understandably so but the way he said it didn’t seem very polite. It was just rushed. Didn’t even hear why we were calling him.
Anyways they had menu’s but haven’t eaten there before I didn’t know that they printed out a QR code that you can then go online and order! Pretty good but that got me thinking why would they need that many waiters then and why aren’t these QR codes be placed on the tables when the hostess seats you? This is very inefficient!
Also having a table full of senior citizens I had to help take the lead to take the order via the phone. I think they need to have people help or people take orders for senior citizens who want to dine there.
Food: 4/5 Food was good. They did pay attention to details and got the modification orders right. I do think though they use a bit too much MSG as I found myself drinking a lot of water after. I had the Nasi Bojari which was delish. Chicken was fried right and the asam prawns were cooked right. The rendang was just right too.
Service: 3/5 The start was rocky and it’s not very good for non tech savvy people. Need better human interaction.
Atmosphere: 4/5 We were there for lunch and stayed a long time. They didn’t rush us as we were a bigger group. Also by the time we were done lunch rush had subsided and we just took our time to pay and spent time chatting. The wait staff didn’t even check in with us. Which was good and bad. Wish there were more interactions and I think I would had ordered more drinks or dessert. But due to the lack of interaction I didn’t bother thinking about it. Opportunity for plus sales were wasted.
Price: 3/5 The quantity of food we could have got this cheaper outside. It the quality is there and I am not complaining. However they could have cheaper drinks and include just tap water rather than...
Read moreFor the past few years, my friends and I have been having CNY Eve Yeesang dinner at this outlet. We've always liked the food (especially our non-Chinese friend who loves curries and sambal dishes), but the level of service has not been consistent - sometimes the wait staff look or sound grumpy. We understand that on the eve of CNY, it's very packed so the wait staff can be stressed. But last night (Feb 9), the experience of waiting for 55 minutes just for a plate of yeesang (small size) was just too much! We noted that other tables' diners also appeared agitated (their yeesang also took too long to arrive).
Yeesang ingredients should have been prepared in the kitchen much earlier beforehand due to all the labour in cutting and shredding of vegetables, so that within 10 minutes of the kitchen receiving the order, the platter would be out. This is so in all restaurants that serve yeesang. It's understandable that cooked dishes would take longer, but yeesang?! Moreover, knowing it's CNY eve, the crew should have been more prepared.
The only saving grace was : the taste of our other dishes was delicious, otherwise we would have been extremely unhappy diners. Our prawn petai dish came out too soon, and we had to wait a long time before a waiter brought the rice. Two other dishes came much later too. The management really needs to do process improvement analysis on timely service for peak hours.
Our conclusion, as we ended our meal: no more Madam Kwan's for future CNY eve reunion dinners. Time to patronise other...
