Early impressions: quiet ambience (morning only), decent chilling space, one long table upstairs (with plug points, assuming “working for some hours with laptop?” but seems rather ironic if you read my story below). The cafe seems spacious for just coffee and a number of pastries. The minimalistic design of the place allows for a lot more echoes and sound amplifications when people talk loudly, be it downstairs or upstairs. I ordered an iced black (it was alright), it came with a complimentary snack by Signature Market which I appreciated.
Now, to my main point.. First of all, the barista at the cashier (later learned his name is Eric) informed me that their WiFi password would only last for 2 hours upon dine-in. I was ready to switch to my own mobile data after 2 hours, but it turns out the access was still available (no qualms there, except found it odd that I was told there was a limit…?).
Next odd thing was this same barista Eric, came by to my seat upstairs & interrupted me, wanting to talk (I was on my earphones at the time), this was roughly at 2:45pm. I also still had some coffee leftover in my glass. Eric informed me that this cafe had a “house” rule(?), which is to say customers who’ve made their first order (was it more than 2 hours ago / after the first 2 hours upon dine-in? he is not the clearest), were “encouraged” or “expected” to make another order if we were to continually dine-in.
I was slightly taken aback at this sudden revelation of a house-rule I was in the dark about. So, I clarified and asked if I was expected to make another order for me to “stay”. Eric then confused me further by saying it is not “necessary”, but again emphasising that they have a “house rule”. I have to say that I don’t remember seeing a dining rule anywhere on this cafe’s social media sites or it being stated on the premises or conveyed to customers at the time of purchase.
Mr. Eric perhaps seeing that I was still bewildered, started telling me that the cafe has a line of customers waiting and needed my seat. I then quickly asked if there was a line right now (that I could have neglected to notice?). Eric admitted there was no observable line yet(?) and no customers were actually waiting for seats. I could also still spot a few other empty tables (non-reserved) downstairs. I told Eric that if there was indeed a line and customers were waiting for a seat, I would be more than happy to vacate (& probably gulp down my coffee to finish quick). Eric then told me that when many new customers arrive, there will be a line & he will ask me to leave. I repeated and said of course, I would be happy to oblige. He then added that he won’t ever force any customers to leave, but only that there is a “house rule” (either you make more orders after a certain period of time, or you basically vacate I guess) and hopes I understand(?).
Anyways, as I was made to feel quite uncomfortable by now, I quite quickly left. On my way out, I took the opportunity to clearly look around again & could confirm that it was not full house, no waiting line, no new ordering customers. I could spot at least 3-4 more vacant tables. The outdoor picture (as attached here) was taken right as I was leaving & it was not the only couple of vacant tables/seats available.
Apparently, I also found out that friends (who has either visited this cafe themselves or known someone who has), had similar experiences where one way or another, they’ve felt or experienced “prompting” by a barista to vacate or else they need to make a new order too.
So just be forewarned, that if you do decide to visit, from the experience of my own (and some of my friends) the cafe has a “house rule” which seems to have a dining restriction or minimum number of orders you must make to waive(?) the dine-in restriction. It’s clear that this is not a place to be leisurely spending your time at, unless you are happy to follow house rules. As for me, I won’t be visiting again as I don’t want to be in a situation where I'm found to be overstaying or deciding if I'll like to buy...

Read moreNot sure about the "house rule" but seems like a calm and relaxing cafe to work in. Decorated with greenery and interesting paintings. There's a long table with many power plugs at the upper level. If you want some quiet reading time, head to the room downstairs with partitioned seats. Explore the hidden Plant Origins experience store located in this cafe. Enjoy the special offers available only at the experience store. Would recommend the nebuliser diffuser set which comes with 3 bottles of essential oils, peppermint sanitizing gel, etc. Worth buying as the items bought separately online would cost a lot more than the special price offered in store. The Rose sanitising spray smells wonderful. Thanks Dash for the good recommendations 👍 The chocolate almond dessert is delicious and good for sharing. Price is bit on the high side but worth it for the unique experience. Do make appointment ahead to visit the...
