According to my other half who had once lived in Lucky Garden area for a while during her college days, this restaurant used to be her to-go place whenever she wanted to eat something good once in a while. Well, we didn't have much $$$ back in those days and eating dai chow was considered a luxury back then. I survived mostly on chap fan and by the end of the month, had to visit Carrefour to buy Maggi mee or Ping Pong biscuits to stock up supply - you get the idea.
So she missed this restaurant and since we were in Bangsar area one weekend evening, she suggested to eat at this restaurant. I ended up circling the area a few times just to find a parking spot - yes it was a pain in the arse. Also you had to be contented dining alfresco style in the hot & stuffy condition.
◾chicken satay - ordered the satay from the Malay lady outside the restaurant and it was polished in no time by the hungry pack. ◾Sweet & sour pork - classic Chinese dish and everyone loved this. ◾Pan fried egg with prawns - quite generous with the prawns and size-wise quite big too ◾Steamed wan yue with ginger - perhaps I am used to eating Bentong ginger so the sauce didn't excite me (they were not Bentong ginger) but the fish was good though. ◾Steamed pork belly with salted fish - not many restaurants had this dish and I gotta say that this was quite appetising. ◾Stir fried bittergourd ◾egg & ginger soup - do not bother order this.
Well the missus got her wish in the end as it was more of a nostalgic purpose. This restaurant is a favourite among the locals and has been in business for as long as she could remember. But then, I'll stick back to my regular...
Read moreThis review is for the night tai chow, where the restaurant converts into a Chinese restaurant with cooked dishes instead of through the stalls in the coffee shop.
Available on in during the evening period, this place is pretty popular with the locals as it gets quite crowded during peak dinner time between 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Parking around the area can be a little challenging, so you might want to prepare yourself for a bit of a walk, or even park at Bangsar Village and walk across the road.
There are chairs and tables inside the restaurant and also placed along the five food way as well to accommodate the never ending stream of diners who come here. Just find a seat and a server will come to take your order as to what you what. In fact, there is even a menu that will be given to you on the dishes they serve.
During my visit, it took about 20 minutes before our first dish even arrived. I suppose you could also order some satay that's located at the front of the shop to tide you by while you wait for your main dishes to arrive.
We had Hot Plate Sizzling Tofu, Four Heavenly Kings (stir fried 4 vegetables with stink beans added on), a steamed Red Snapper with cheong Cheng sauce, and a delicacy you don't find in many places - pigs intestines with salted dried shrimp.
The food was excellent, with the exception of the fish, which I felt was slightly too sweet. Everything else was perfectly cooked, and I had a very enjoyable meal there.
Prices are quite alright - RM119 for 3 persons, which was very reasonable (including drinks).
Will be back again in the...
Read moreBeen coming to this restaurant since 2007! Literally my dinner canteen during the time I was working around this area for around 4 years! After moving a little further, I still come here for dinner with my family and friends. The restaurant isn’t upscale, it’s a basic settings with open air seatings, Food is good, very home cooking style, nothing super fancy or with fancy decorations but they are delicious. The Aunties and Uncles are friendly and nice and if you are unsure, they can always give recommendations! The chicken wings r a great appetiser while waiting for dinner! The satay stall outside the restaurant is also yummy! Normally we will order some satay to go with our dinner! My general comment is, don’t expect fancy and you can bet your bottom dollar on the yummy food at...
