UPDATE: I’ve recently went back to their place after a full renovation. I have to say that the tosai has improved greatly compared to the previous time I went there. The satay also improved quite a lot. Unfortunately, during my latest visit, one of the chicken satay was served raw again, as you can see in my photos. Overall improved quite a bit but the satay chef definitely still needs more improvement to prevent such incidents from happening. Updated to from 1 stars to 2 stars, points deducted due to the raw food issue which is very sensitive.
Original: This place serves hands down the absolute worst mamak food I've ever had. I can't even begin to express my disappointment and anger towards this restaurant.
Let's start with the nasi kandar section. The food there was beyond stale, and it looked like it had been sitting there since morning. And mind you, I went there at 7 PM! It's unacceptable to serve such low-quality, old food to customers.
But let me tell you, the terrible food was not even the worst part of this whole experience. The real nightmare was the service provided by the manager and the staff. When we placed our order, we took the time to clearly and patiently explain what we wanted, one item at a time. However, the waiter seemed to have a complete lack of understanding and got angry at us as if we were at fault. How can they treat customers like this?
As if that wasn't bad enough, the "best satay" they claim to have took an eternity to arrive. We had already finished our main dishes before it finally showed up, and to our horror, it was burnt to a crisp and stone cold! I still can't wrap my head around how they managed to serve satay that looked like charcoal and yet was cold at the same time. And to top it off, some of the chicken satays were even raw inside! It's beyond disgusting and unacceptable.
When we complained and requested a refund for the uneaten satay, the manager and staff were incredibly unaccommodating and unfriendly. Instead of acknowledging their mistake and addressing the issue, they tried to talk us down as if we were the ones in the wrong. It's infuriating how they treated us, considering the problem clearly lied with their food and service.
Honestly, I give this restaurant a solid 0 out of 10. It's a shame that I can't leave a 0-star rating because that's what they truly deserve. It's worth mentioning that I frequent other similar stores and have been to this particular branch a couple of times before. But both times, I've been served late and cold satay. It's truly unbelievable. And let's not forget that this place isn't even cheap.
The only silver lining in this whole ordeal was the Teh Halia, which was surprisingly better than the ones nearby. But that's not enough to redeem this restaurant. I strongly recommend people to visit other mamak places in the vicinity, such as Mahbub and Bala's, and avoid this horrendous establishment...
Read moreThis is an update on Syed Bistro after the renovation!! Please see new pictures. Thank you - Syed Bistro has been around for more than 30 years. This branch in Bangsar is our favorite haunt especially when we want to eat Bryani Dum. I must tell you it’s one of the best Bryani’s I have ever eaten. With a great selection of curries including Ikan merah fish head curry, side dishes and their deliciously crunchy peria goreng, I promise you won’t be disappointed! They are currently promoting & selling Indian Mangoes by kilo and by box, so hurry while stocks last. Before I forget their tandoori chicken and roti naan are KL famous and served piping hot. I had kopi ice kaw… but if your into fresh squeezed & healthy juices , they serve freshly squeezed orange juice, which is definitely a thirst quencher. Want to beat the crowds do an early brunch, like to mingle and mix go after six…. Hahaha! Enjoy people we...
Read moreI had never eaten Nasi Beriyani Bukhara (Bokhara Biryani) until now .It is as authentic as the carry-away box says.Add the claim to being served for airline dining...this is truly heavenly biryani. For RM15, the meal consists of two large scoops of basmati rice, one portion (think 1/8 part of a whole chicken),acar buah (sweet sour thick sauce in a mixture of raisin, preserved cherry & all the good stuff), one hard-boiled egg and one serving of small gravy. The restaurant too is a couple of notches up the usual mamak. It's a corner shop and easily missed but the staff are customer-friendly.The seating area -is a choice between normal dining furniture and booths (at least one needs to be re-cushioned from wear).Eat first then pay. This is our top choice in Lucky...
