Seeing the attractive set lunch banner outside, we decided to give it a try. So ordered 4 different sets of set lunch and each supposed to come with rice, a side dish vege and a Tong Sui. But the Tong Sui is really "tong sui" in real term- it was just plain barley water with plenty of sugar and barley seeds in it and very damn sweet. But the banner displayed the Tong Sui as white fungus, dates with some other stuffs in it. The restaurant really gave a misleading representation of the food they offer. The same goes for the soup that we had to pay extra RM10.00 for a small bowl..the picture shows like some kind of ABC soup with corn cob in it but what we got were bowls of old cucumber soup with chicken feet inside. Again another misleading representation. Couldn't agree more with Keat Lam (a reviewer) - the pork and 2 chicken dishes that we ordered were practically only deep fried batter, hardly any meat at all. And the Deep Fried Chicken with French beans has more dried chillies than anything else. Could hardly see french beans or chicken (more of deep fried batter). What is seen in my photo is all the chicken batter and the French beans displayed on top....the bottom is all dried chillies. The same goes for the other 2 dishes...looks nice and presentable but only fried batter in tasty-looking sauce. Come on STG, if you really want to serve value for money meal to your customers, please do it genuinely. This is our family 2nd visit and I think it will be our last! My advice please avoid the set lunch - for that price one can get better set...
Read moreWe visited Siong Tong Gau Restaurant and had a mixed experience. While the service was good—thanks to the manager personally attending to us—the overall experience fell short in some areas.
The space is quite small compared to other branches, which made it feel a bit cramped. We requested a bigger fish for our meal, but unfortunately, the fish that arrived was quite small and didn’t meet our expectations.
As for the food, the Gu Lou Yok had too much flour, which masked the classic sweet-and-sour flavor we were looking forward to. The Herb Chicken was flavorful but a bit too salty for our taste. However, the Hand-Torn Fried Cabbage was a highlight. The addition of dry chili gave it a nice kick of spiciness, making it quite addictive and enjoyable.
Overall, while the service was commendable, there is room for improvement in the food quality and portion sizes. Would recommend trying their other branches for a better...
Read moreI came here for dinner with my family and relatives. We ordered steamed tilapia, steamed clams, fried intestine with dry shrimp, pork belly with salted fish and a few more dishes. I found the tilapia was fresh but the gingery soup was not to my liking. the steamed clams has the same overwhelmed gingery taste. i would prefer both dishes to have less soup, so that i could taste the freshness and sweetness from the seafood. The PORTION of the fried intestine, pork belly and other dishes were RIDICULOUSLY PATHETIC. I was completely dazed looking at the teeny-tiny dishes. The pork belly was too oily. I gave 2 stars for the service, and the freshness of the tilapia, nothing else. Considering the price and the disappointment on the portion and the taste of the dishes, hence that was my 1st and also...
