This place makes the list of places I regret patronizing. Food was not worth to be listed at such prices or even served at a joint. Only feel one-star worthy as they're accommodating to pets and staff is polite. Ok to come and drink but absolute no on food. Horrible horrible kitchen and nasty toilet.
We ordered Salad nicoise Grilled chicken Fish and chips
Horrible for salad nicoise, it was boiled veg and an E grade overboiled egg served with a side of spicy canned tuna. The kitchen didn't make any attempt to season any of it (not even onions) to top the salad with flavor - no herb, no olive oil, no vinegrette, it was just bland boiled veg. I have nothing to say but it's clearly assembled by someone who has never had a salad nicoise.
Grilled chicken was so oily, not grilled rather pan fried. The mashed potatoes that came accompanied, again, unseasoned. Bare and naked as they come as boiled veg. I'm sorry but even grilled chicken from those warung are prepared better. Plating was horrible as it was just a piece of light skinned chicken thigh, with toss over boiled cauliflower, carrot, broccoli.
Fish and chips, the batter was thick and hard we picked the fish flakes off like a shell. It says it's beer batter, not sure how far true it is. The tartar sauce was horrible, again not made by someone who has tasted tartar sauce or perhaps the cook has a strong affinity to having onions over them. It doesn't even have the layer of sourness to it and it was just pure onion sauce. Even raita doesn't taste this onion-y.
Toilet hygiene was very poor. They should've divided the two toilets between gents and ladies. The toilet seats were speckled with dry urine and the toilet seat cleaner dispensers were empty. Absolute disgust to use.
I don't know what happened to this outlet but it's so poorly managed. The kitchen was absolutely horrid. Clearly ran by cooks who have no idea what...
Read moreUsually a fan of The Barn's other locations, but not this one and not this time. Poor following of SOPs and the food was disappointing.
There was no staff around when I arrived for a weekday lunch and I wasn't even sure they were open. I nearly left when a member of staff appeared out of thin air and asked me to check in (which I had already done, but no one was around to notice). Wasn't asked to do a temperature check either.
Only saw two waitstaff as we sat. Neither seemed to excited to be there, and it was hard to get their attention. We had to get up and tell them we were ready to order as they stood and talked. One staff member kept his mask under his chin for like 10 minutes while talking and serving customers! (Seriously? Over a year into the pandemic and we're still doing this??) Had to ask the other staff to tell him to put it on.
The chicken chop lunch set was very mediocre; glad I didn't pay dinner prices for it! The chicken itself was warm and crunchy, but very salty. The gravy had that film on it as it had been sitting a while, like me waiting like 30 minutes for my food (but sans film). The chips were cool and a bit soggy by the time they reached our table (which took a long time considering there were fewer than 10 customers) and the mixed vegetables were freezer-burned and swimming in oil/butter. Came with two salads and one was just topped with oil - they must not have shaken the dressing before actually pouring it on.
If you're looking for a cold beer and a view of the lake, I'd try going to one of the...
Read moreLetâs start with the positives, service is great and very friendly, but we were also the only ones there for lunch before more diners started coming in. Staff was very nice to offer a new set of color pencils and paper. They were also willing to replace a dish due to slight misunderstanding. Also nice that they offered to reheat the platter when another friend joined us much later. Service experience was great.
Ambience is very nice and display a relatively good selection of wines but lacking in rose. Thereâs also unlimited salad (basic selection) at lunch for every main course/diner.
However, food is a major disappointment for the price. We ordered a bak kut teh, very fatty and lots of innards. It was basically inedible for my 2.5 year old daughter but like I mentioned, they were willing to replace it. Taste wise, it was super sweet. Definitely sweetened with sugar so was quite a disappointment.
Biggest let down next was the paella. Rice was mushy, not al dente, and lumpy. Had reasonable servings of seafood and chorizo but flavor was flat. Just like badly cooked rice mixed in with lots of tomato ketchup.
Fries were also funny in texture. Was as if the fries werenât cooked properly, powdery/chalky inside and a bit chewy outside.
Karubi cubes were okay and the tapas platter, I thought was very good value MYR88 for a huge portion of everything! These are probably the only stuff Iâd order, if I do come back. Everything else was rather pricy for the disappointment in taste.
