This was my first time here, although I have frequently dined at Rakuzen. I decided to try this place when I saw Hitsumabushi on the menu.
I agree with a review by someone named Yang Teoh — the portion of unagi is pathetic and doesn't match what was advertised. It definitely doesn’t justify the price of RM52.10. I should have just gone to Rakuzen next door. For the same price, the portion of unagi there is much larger, making for a satisfying meal.
I was disappointed with the portion at Yayoi. The eel came in just 8 small, thin pieces, and the rice was way too much. I think it's ridiculous — who eats that much rice? The ratio was completely off.
I’ve had better Hitsumabushi at a Japanese restaurant in Singapore, where the portion of unagi is massive.
Prior to dining, while I was studying the menu outside the restaurant, one of the staff stood uncomfortably close to me. I didn’t like the proximity, as I think it’s rude and invasive of my personal space. But fine, I let it go. However, when I asked a simple question — "Does this unagi dish come with egg?" — the staff member looked at me blankly and said, "Ahh..." I repeated the question, but he still didn’t understand, and yet, he remained standing right in front of me. I’m not sure why.
I finally asked him to please get someone else who could understand my question. I did not expect such poor service, especially since he stood in front of me. I would have expected him to be able to assist if I had any questions about the menu. I'm not sure if he was trained to just stand there.
I was disappointed with my first dining experience at Yayoi. Never again. I'll be sticking with Rakuzen, where the service and food quality are...
Read moreFirst time tried this place with my brother. We were super hungry for dinner and heard about this new place open at Waterfront. I saw this franchise at another branch in midvalley but never got to try. So it's nice to know it opens near my house. This place has no pork, so that's good to know for Muslims who'd want to try. We ordered sets and ala carte of sushis, gyozas, salmon sashimi. The set was quite nice, ordered the prawn tempura and breaded chicken katsu. My brother had a mix of slices of beef, fried chicken and other stuff as well. The miso soup was tasty as well. The salmon sashimi was as fresh as it can be. Gyoza was awesome too. Overall I feel the restaurant has plenty to offer various meats and different cooking of the meats as well. Price wise was a little on the high side but then again, the quality was pretty good too. Staff was very attentive and service was pretty fast I'd say. I'll be looking forward to come again and try other dishes in the near...
Read moreLocated in Desa Park City, the Japanese restaurant is located a little bit down from the park area.
The tables and utensils are clean. The ordering can be done via the touchscreen located at every table. They also give a physical menu for reference as well as q QR code to direct one to their online menu.
The histumabushi, has a fancy setup and comes with a note on how to enjoy it. But that is all to it - fancy. Taste-wise it is just plain.
Yayoi gozen has a mix variety of food. The (raw) salmon cubes with cabbage is fresh. The saba is well cooked and smooth. The chicken has a thick layer of batter but still ok. The meat and mushrooms are normal.
The teriyaki chicken teishoku and chicken karaage teishoku are average. Portions are not big. The mix toji teishoku is also average but portions are decent.
All teishoku comes with free rice and...
