Was here when they first opened so it's been quite a long time. This place is famous for drinks and not for food.
It's actually like a Kopitiam where the main owner is Thong Kee selling drinks, toast, sandwiches, eggs, snacks, etc while other stalls sell main meals food.
However, the difference is Thong Kee here also sells main meals like Char Kuey Teow, Pan Mee, Yee Mee, Big Breakfast, Claypot Loh Su Fun and even Fried Prawn Mee which are very poor in comparison to nearby Hakka Delights Fried/Soup Prawn Mee.
Other stalls (mostly closed by 2pm) sell Prawn Mee, Ipoh Hor Fun, Chee Cheong Fun & Yong Tau Foo, Pork Noodle, Wantan Noodle, Nasi Lemak, Chicken Rice.
Service: 4.25🌟 Very organized and systematic. You need to line up and wait to get your seats number, they will provide you a paper. After that, you go to the place you want to order food and show them the seat number paper. Once the food is ready, they will bring it to your table. However the staff doesn't seem smiley, not sure if it's because they have a hard day every day.
Atmosphere: 3.75🌟 Good space between each table. Staff are actively cleaning the place so despite being not so new with outside seats, the place still considered neat. The inner seats have some fans but the outer seats are lacking so it's a bit hot
Drinks: TK 1+1 (Cold) 3.5🌟 Signature drink of Tea and one shot of Hainan Expresso. It's similar to Cham with the difference it has more Tea than Coffee in ratio It's smooth, less sweet, slightly more fragrant and a very light drink compares. If you want something heavier then go for Cham. If you need something heavy to stay awake, go for their Coffee choices.
Drinks: Teh (Cold) 3.5🌟 Quite nice. Not very milky and have slight tea fragrances and somehow feels refreshing.
Drinks: Cham (Cold) 3.5🌟 Take away. Good balance of tea and coffee. Priced at Rm 4.90
Drinks: Kopi (Cold) 3.5🌟 Take away. Pretty good coffee flavor....
Read moreGreat kopitiam (typical Malaysia coffee shop) ambience. Thong Kee coffee (1-1), in my opinion, is acceptable. I have had better but this is considered within the acceptable range. Consider ordering their toasts or croissants. There will be queue but the waiting time is bearable as it moves pretty quickly. If you are eating-in, order your drinks/etc. and the seat will then be allocated to you thereafter. Appreciate that there's a system (somewhat) in place.
The food stalls (unrelated to Thong Kee) are the WORSE I have taken. I am not fussy when it comes to food but those are really utterly out-of-this-world bad.
Pan Mee - do NOT order this. We tried their soup base and chili pan mee. Soup base - bland, and with a weird after taste. Chili - it's even worse! Not spicy, not fragrant, basically no taste. And if it's not because of the cili padi (bird's eye chili) as condiment, one cannot take it down at all. Avoid at all cost.
Pork noodle - once again, bland. Basic pork noodle but as pork noodle goes, the prize lies in its broth so I would consider this as fail.
Chicken rice - ok. Nothing to shout about.
Char Kuey Teow (fried flat noodles) - another stall to AVOID at all cost. The kuey teow are like pre-fried, and the owner will re-fry with the condiments upon order. No wok hey (the breath of wok/chinese stir-fry), no nothing. Disappointed.
Claypot lou shu fun (rat tail's noodles) - the only edible item in my list that day. Not fantastic but at least not too bad but this is mainly due to the comparison of disappointing items ordered that day.
Will I return - absolutely NOT! Not worth it even if it's for their coffee. Try other places...
Read moreImpressed with: How organised and well trained their team is. Everyone knows their roles and they are efficient with it considering the volume they deal with at peak time. Also, their queue system is great and fast, along with their allocated table seating, allows for 1 pax customers to be able to order food and drinks without worrying about their table being taken up by others. The screen they have for takeaway and delivery orders was a step up in their adoption towards better experience for the delivery riders (they had this for quite some time already, quite early adopters). Good controls, haven't had any order forgotten by mistake despite volume.
Food (Thong Kee): Half boiled eggs are always perfect and quick. Toast also not bad and their curry puff is quite good (I prefer the soft type so it matches my preference). Chow Kuey Teow, maybe slightly below average.
Food (Stalls): The Ipoh Hor Fun is great and the Wantan Mee shop is good too. Chicken rice stall is pretty new compared to the others but I have been eating without sauce so can't really fully comment on their taste but portion is ok.
Drinks: Good consistency and taste good too. (Mainly go for Kopi O Kosong Ping and Teh)
Ambiance: Ok for coffee shop style, generally clean and airy. The tiny drains for outside under canopy, seems a little dirty with a bit of sludge, so maybe some cleaning would be good.
Payment: Cash or Touch n Go but they were very slow on the TnG payment adoption.
Parking: Tough to get parking at the street but ok if you park at Pinnacle...
