We had a very weird experience at Ushi. The waiter didn't seem to understand our order very well so we took our time to review the order by giving him the exact item numbers that we'd like to order, and we thought we'd be okay. We ordered a steak, a sukiyaki and a udon. udon and sukiyaki came pretty quickly and we enjoyed them well. After we finished those two dishes, we waited for 30 minutes and didn't get the steak we ordered. We were concerned and called the wait staff to inquire about the steak. Sure enough, the waiter did NOT understand what we wanted and the kitchen was closed by that time. We were incredibly disappointed by not getting the steak, which was the whole reason we visited the restaurant, due to the poor communication skills of the waiter. We understand not everyone can speak or understand English and that's why we really took our time to explain to the waiter by giving him what we thought were explicit instructions (the numeric item number on the menu), yet this still failed in getting the food we actually came for. I really didn't know what we could have done to help the waiter understand our order. For a fine-dining restaurant such as Ushi, this level of service is something we did not expect at all.
