The Upper — Restaurant in Malacca

Was looking for cafés to try out, ended up coming here and was not disappointed at all.

You first place your order downstairs once you enter the café then head upstairs to look for seats as there aren’t much tables downstairs, which is probably where the name of the café came from.

The atmosphere is pretty chill. There are plenty of cozy areas for you to seat, rest and enjoy your meal, and also several Instgramable corners too. It’s pretty quiet upstairs so if you’re looking for somewhere to have lunch and work, or if you’re just someone who hates busy atmospheres, this is the perfect place!

We tried the ice lemon tea and matcha green tea. Ice lemon tea was quite huge for its price (RM8), but the matcha was a bit too sweet for our liking. If you’re thirsty but don’t feel like spending extra on top of your meal, they also offer free water that you can help yourself with 💧

We also ordered the Spicy Aglio Olio with Chicken, Fried Chicken Chop, and Fish n Chips for our main dish and all of them were delicious. Great taste, good portion, and reasonable price! All of them costed around RM20 with NO EXTRA TAX. Most cafés will charge an extra 10% for service and 6% for governmental tax on top of that price so this is a fresh breath of air!

It’s located at a relatively quiet area compared to Jonker, and there are several parking lots on the roadside so it’s not too hard to find parking, unless maybe during weekends or peak hours. You can also park at paid parking lots nearby if you really can’t find any parking.

Nice ambience, good food and drinks. Lots of spots to take IG photos. Unfortunately, we did not have good experience on their sevice. We placed our order. After 30 minutes, nothing came. I went to the cashier to follow up on our orders. Apparently, they did not key in our orders at all! We had to re order. So we waited for the 2nd time. Finally the drinks arrived after 5 minutes. We continued to wait for the food. After 20 minutes, still no food were served. Again, I went down to check what's going on. To my shocking, they did not key in any of our food orders! They apologize and sent us some complimentary...

The food here is amazing! I had the Aglio Olio and it was absolutely delicious. But what I loved the most was my drink – the Mango Passion. It was super yummy, perfectly sweet, and had a strong mango flavor that I really enjoyed.

The place itself is nice, though it was a bit warm, probably due to the hot weather. Hopefully, the air conditioning can be improved or the temperature adjusted for more comfort.
