My favourite chicken rice in all of Ipoh is in STG. These people, they "get" chicken rice, understood it completely, and elevated it to a new plane of excellence. But at RM30 it's not cheap, and I've been chasing the same taste, but cheaper.

And that's what Winwin Chicken Rice in Greentown business centre is doing, execute chicken rice exceedingly, astonishingly well. So good that one product can sustain an entire business. Are they STG good? Nearly there, I'd say they're 90% of the way there in terms of taste and presentation.

And the key to the best chicken rice ever is scrutiny. Every single component, no matter how simple, has its place in the recipe, and they come together to provide a religious experience. Get the single set because that's all I order. Since chicken rice is part of Ipoh's fabric, we must go part by part.

Chicken: so smooth, juicy, tender, and seasoned just right. You can "slurp" the chicken right in. Always request drumstick for the best experience.

Rice: short-grain, utterly fragrant and goes fantastically well with the gravy.

Soy sauce: equal parts savoury and oily, provides moisture and hydration to the already juicy chicken.

Chili sauce: thick and lends a spicy kick. Well-made and essential for every bite.

Ginger paste: provides more zing to the already loaded bite. The well-blended ginger fibres don't get stuck in your teeth.

Clear soup: loaded with chicken umami to hydrate the rice and cleanse your palette.

Cucumbers and coriander: lends crisp and freshness, a perfect conduit to the chili sauce.

Egg and tofu: additional protein to round off the set!

Put together, my chicken rice fix is, well, fixed. Every loving bite is a reminder why I live and love chicken rice. For RM14.90 it's a hell of an experience. How is STG's better? They de-boned the drumstick, and added thick soy sauce as one of the condiments.
